We always enjoy dining here, from the greeting at the door and the way we were looked after all night by Alex was the perfect start to a birthday week. The bread and oil to start and then the entrees of oysters, spaghetti and pappadella,...More

A very nice Italian place tucked away in a little alleyway. Honest food, nice wines and good service. Great place for a decent lunch.

We came here on our 10th wedding anniversary and again on our 20th.... service is always sublime, service so polished, food superb. Ambience is wonderful (you feel like you're in Italy). Don't wait 10 years between meals ....

We almost always dine here when we are in Melbourne but last night just felt the menu was a bit limited and didn't have anything really special on it.What we had ( Risotto, Zuccini Flowers, Pappardele and Pannacotta) was good but just didn't blow our...More

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary in Il Bacaro last night. The restaurant is relatively cosy and intimate, which can be good or bad, depending on your neighbours. Last night, we had a noisy foursome at the adjacent table, which detracted from our...More

I love the feel of this place. While the table cloths are crisp white linen, it has a warmth and cosiness. While the whole menu looks appetising, I can't go past the saffron risotto with scallops, pumpkin seeds and food gras each time. Pure joy.

Lovely little restaurant which was enjoyed by our group of 5. The food and wine were superb as was the choice. The service was a little off, slow and it was like our waiter just didn't want to be there. But it was a lovely...More

Great atmosphere in central city to enjoy fine food and wine which was quiet enough to be able to discuss business.

Another fabulous night at Il Bacaro. The shared entree of Sydney oysters started a beautiful meal. My friend and I had a medium rare steak on the bone. My wife choose the squid ink tagialtini. All washed down with a Tuscan Sangiovese. The three shared...More

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air

I would love to know what the restaurant responds to this. This is terrible service and even if other reviews a brilliant I would never set food in this place out of fear of being treated in the same arrogant manner!

It's a shame you had this experience. Like Johndeer05,I've been to this restaurant more than 10 times and not once experienced a bad meal or service. At the same token, I don't think any one restaurant can please 100% of... More
