Home cooked italian food in a humble cafe. Not flashy place. Simple and humble but the prices do not match. Pricey for what you get. Stale bread. Size of plate not big. No side salad. No prices. No menu - only what is on the "board" which is hardly visible. Coffee nice and hot. Good. Bolognaise and lasagne good but... More

Pellegini's is humble and some of the best pasta in Melbourne. Run by Nino and Sisto for over 40 years, you will feel like you are at home. The Pasta menu is simple, They bake all their deserts onsite, the baked cheesecake is fantastic! No table dining, everything is served at the bar so if your out for an intimate... More

I've been coming here on and off for quite a few years now, and it's definitely not as good as it used to be. The food is ok and the coffee is good, but be aware that you'll probably pay what they feel like charging you at the time. I ordered coffee twice last week and then again today -... More

I had a late lunch about 2.30 on a Saturday. I had no trouble getting a seat, but 45 minutes later it was 80% full. There are only 2 rows of counters with fixed bar stool seating for about 30; there are no tables or chairs. There were singles, couples, trios and a small family eating or having coffee. The... We come across pellegrinis and gave it a go. It looks like what it says an old espresso bar, with seats up at the counter, there are no menus or prices just dishes on the board. We ordered our pasta dishes which were simply " proper" Italian and really good, the Italian staff very friendly, the desserts looked great but... More

When you walk you will feel at home immediately. The staff are fabulous. You sit at the counter like you did in the 50's. The menu is hanging above the counter. When I arrived I didn't know what I wanted so the boss ordered for me. I had 1/2 lasagna and 😃1/2 cannelloni. All I can say this is the... More

The moment I walked in I knew this place was special, been new too Melbourne this was my first time in there(certainly will wont be the last) I only just had a coffee there but looking around and this homely atmosphere just makes you want to stay in there for that little longer to try the desserts and you just... Always a pleasure to eat their. It seems to never change. Old fashioned, nothing fancy just good pasta and great service. Brilliant value.

This cafe is a must every time I travel to Melbourne. It's like when you go back home on a holiday and you have to visit Nonna for a big hug, a bowl of homemade pasta and coffee which only Nonna can make. It makes you feel nostalgic. For me, the strudel is the highlight. It is the only place... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
