I stopped by Pellegrinis for a spot of lunch whilst travelling with family. There were no menus per say, we asked the service staff who were very helpful and recommended some house specialty dishes. I had the Lasagne, which was excellent. Seating arrangements are on stools and benches. The food was excellent and very quick. I would say thios is... More

A very Italian bar owned by a very friendly Italian man. Watermelon granitas, recommended by him were nice. Bread and butter was brought out to the bench we sat at (not very much room to eat at, mind you), which was a pleasant surprise. Food was quick and tasted fine. The pasta was a little bit too soft for my... More

Being a famous place they have a lot of customers coming, busy most of the time but if you want to eat italian there are much better choices. Good if you want to experience an italian fast food.

I remember eating here as a child in the kitchen (my Dad new the owners). Drop in any time for a quick coffee (made brilliantly) or a have a real counter meal, sitting up at the counter!! This is a Melbourne institution that has outlasted so many other institutions for a very good reason.

Delicious, yet simple dishes. Laid-back, no-fuss service, and a great "European" atmosphere for nostalgic people. Definitely worth a stop for a lunch break or a casual dinner.

Pellegrinis is a Melbourne institution that serves superb coffee. Friendly staff greeted us on arrival and orders were taken immediately. The front bar was quite busy even at 11 pm.

We were introduced to the amazing coffee and atmosphere of Pellegrinis on Saturday. The history of this place is amazing and I don't think the inside or outside has changed since it was opened, which makes it all the more appealing. Go in for a chat with the friendly staff and enjoy some of Melbourne's best coffee.

Authentic, classic, unique Italian pasta meals. The menu is fixed and has stayed the same for years, full of popular choices. The restaurant's seating is quite cosy so mostly suited to small numbers, not large groups. The pasta was homestyle, no surprises yet good quality. The iced coffee was delicious.

Had a very ordinary coffee at Pascal's breakfast so wandered around the corner for the real thing - felt like I was in Rome at a stand-up coffee bar - better coffee and more authentic.

We were after something quick and that is what we got. Lasagne was delicious, but would have liked a side of salad to go with it but that is not what Pellegrinis is about. Ate the Lasagne perched on stools, quick latte and H2O and out to enjoy the show.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
