Busy time the night we visited after a comedy show but the service was great. We actually had a drink and an entree before the show and then returned after the show was more. The barman was very friendly and made a great suggestion on Japanese drinks to try. Food was fresh and yum and very affordable. We will return!!!

RESTAURANT'S FAVOURITE REVIEW
Reviewed 19 January 2017 via mobile

Yum! I want to go back. We enjoyed a variety of different dishes ... My favourites were the okonomiyaki, pork gyoza and tori karange(deep fried chicken pieces). My son only likes very basic sushi, cucumber nori rolls and they made this especially for him too in smaller pieces. The staff are super friendly. To finish I had a Sake espresso... More

We went to have a meal before going to a show. The ordering process involved us writing our own orders (which the waitress then needed to clarify anyway). The food was prompt and very nice (nigiri sushi, yakitore etc all delicious) and reasonably priced but because staff were also catering for a function next door, it was difficult to get... More

Izakaya Chuji used to be one of my favourite restaurants. It was often extremely busy with very slow service but I was prepared to put up with that. One day I was served mackerel sushi and the awful taste of that fish still sticks to my memory cells. My kids have been back and have walked out because of the... More

Monday's are all you can eat. It is from a specific menu, but has all the usual favorites. $45 is probably good value for this. Agudashi tofu was our favorite. Even though service is a bit slow it's ok as it gives time for the food to digest.

I have been here thrice now and eaten some really traditional and authentic Japanese food. I was especially impressed with item #4 which is a kind of raw beef. The idea would've made me cringe, but one bite and I was hooked and so were other colleagues. Item #66 ox tongue was even better. Sashimi is great too and really... More

The food here is average, but the staff is very friendly. I do not recommend the sashimi selection but ordering individually seems to be a better option. The udon is tasty but the price is too high. The place is nowhere near fancy, but the prime location I suspect meant it has to charge more than other places.

I can honestly say that the bbq pork sticks served amongst the remainder of a tasty Japanese meal, were the outstanding part of my day. I have never had a more decadently morsel of food. Thanks chef I will be back

This is a traditional style Japanese inn - we had gyoza which were freshly cooked (not the frozen defrosted ones with the dry edges!) and tonkatsu. The portions were huge and the waitress gave good advice about serving size of rice so we didn't waste money buying 2 serves. Highly recommended.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
