The raw beef rice noodle was one of the best in town - a taste of the real Vietnamese style cuisines. Very crowded so better go early for dinner.

Ate here during a flying visit to Melbourne largely because each time I walked past it, it was full - and most of the customers seemed to be Asian; always a good sign. I eventually got a table after 8.30 and it was worth the wait. The Pho was better than I had in Hanoi and they stocked 333 beer,... More

Mekong is a cash only place conveniently located on Swanston St. in the CBD. It's unpretentious but the food is well prepared and tasty. Prices are quite reasonable.

I had to grab a quick bite before attending a concert. Was sharing a table with a group of uni students on my left and a group of people loading up before going for a night of fun to my right. Staff took my order without fuss. Then another staff ordered me - yes, ordered in the manner of a... More

I have noticed that Pho (Vietnames noodle soup) shops have popped up all over Melbourne. I've been going to this one for years and went again on the weekend and it didn't let me down. This place only takes cash.

If you want the real deal Vietnamese Pho then this is the place for you. The Pho (soup) is fantastic. Feel soooo good afterwards. Beware, thus is Vietnamese dining so don't expect a high grade dining experience. It's simply get in, eat and get out but soooo yummy and so inexpensive. Do it!! I never miss out when I make... The noodle soup is very tasteless and watery. Service is terrible and rude but we didn't expect much for the service anyway. We had a lot of expectation hearing about all the hype but very disappointed with the quality of food. Lots of photos on the wall but they certainly did not deliver at least the night we went. Good... More

Dropped past sat night for supper, we had # 401, 8, 407 & 2x 605. Got quick service and tasty food without the bells and whistles. If your hungry for soup noodles and in a hurry give it a go.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
