Waiting for a table is worth it here - but you usually don't wait too long, and you can get drinks and snacks while you wait. It's nice and fancy but not over the top because the staff are down to earth, and it wouldn't matter anyway because the food is just delicious!

A happy walk-in last night.... we were in that terrible indecisive state when hungry but with no idea what we felt like eating. This was happily resolved last night at Coda. From the outset the service was excellent and attentive without being obtrusive. The greeting was warm and friendly and despite not having a booking we were graciously and comfortably... More

I went there on a Sunday night in mid-March. Tried to call them beforehand but the reservation line was not active. In any case, the website mentions that they seat people until 10:30 pm, so I left South Melbourne - several miles away - and got there at 10:25 pm. The place was still full of guests, but the host... I am a Melbourne local and have heard very good things about Coda but until now have not been. I wish I had been sooner. The whole evening was outstanding. Our waiter was spot on in recommending the number of dishes we should have. I would have over catered. Each dish had just the right amount of sweet, savoury and... More

The atmosphere here is beautiful, the service is experienced and friendly. The reviews on the foi don't do it justice, the good is beautifully presented and well priced. I'll def come again.

We've visited this restaurant couple of times now and both times me and my partner absolutely loved it. The food is just sensational but the staff are also incredible! Great wine list and if you are unsure just ask the staff!

Put this restaurant on your to do list when next in Melb. Great vibe, sensational food, sit at the bar to eat so you can chat with the barman & watch the chefs at work in the kitchen. Awesome place

The atmosphere is fantastic along with the service. The food is great with simple ingredients and not over the top. You know how some food is just flavour on top of flavour.....Coda IA not like that at all. The staff give good advice on how many dishes to order and great combinations and wine matching if you desire. I am... More

We always have a good experience. Betel leaf. Wine. Barramundi. Service. Wine matching. Burrata. Coda is good. Still good. Put it on your list of places to go to eat. ⭐️

I went for lunch and sat at the bar. Nice vibe and fun to watch the kitchen. I was excited about the menu of small plates. I had the scallop and the crispy tapioca. The server suggested the crispy cauliflower as a side. Everything was not very warm. The scallop was overpowered by the sauce and the tapioca was salty... More

Description
Upon opening our doors in 2009, we were thrilled to receive the The Age Good Food Guide's 'HatAward' and have maintained it ever since. Complementing these achievements, we are very proud of Head Sommelier, Travis Howe, who not only won Sommelier of the Year but also picked up the 2013 Wine List of the Year. Nestled in one of Melbourne's iconic laneways (basement Oliver Lane, and Flinders Lane), Coda is located in the busiest and most dynamic culinary precinct the city has to offer. A stone's throw away from the Yarra River, Flinders Street station and Federation Square, the restaurant enjoys hosting a diverse group of diners from frequenting locals who live and work on its doorstep to diners from all over the globe. Upon entering the restaurant you will be greeted by a member of our friendly team headed by Mykal and Kate Bartholomew and Executive Chef Adam D'Sylva. The trio has assembled a dedicated team with highly sought-after experience from many international and Melbourne-based restaurants. Coda's relaxed environment provides a versatile setting for a range of engagements. Whatever your occasion - from a quick pre-football meal, to a long Sunday lunch, business dining or a cosy seat for an anniversary - we look forward to your visit. While bookings are highly recommended, patrons without a reservation can enjoy the full menu at the bar.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
