Coda was an unexpected treat for four of us that went in, without a reservation (and managed to get a table) and both the food and service was outstanding. We ordered the, crispy tapioca and prawn betel leaf, duck larb, grilled palm heart salad, crispy cauliflower with kimchi dressing, and one the mains and the food was not only perfectly... More

A fusion of west and eastern influences both in preparation and tastes. Delicate cooking techniques with dishes which seem to complement each other if opting for shared plates. We went with the chef's recommendation for the choice of dishes which turned out to be a great decision. Admittedly the menu looked that good, we could not have gone wrong with... More

For a seafood allergic it is not the best place to go as there was only few options available in menu. But still the food was really good and tasty and definitely would go there again if around.

Four of us had dinner at Coda, which is directly around the corner from the Grand Hyatt. All of our starters were excellent (I had steak tartare and my wife had yellowfin tuna salad - the others had sticky pork). My wife and I chose one of our favorite fish - barramundi - for our main (to share). It was... More

I liv in Melbourne. Am often in the CBD. Wanted to try an eating place I hadn't tried before. TripAdvisor 'nearby' came up with Coda. It was excellent. I was offered bar stool but because of bad back I asked for chair. Gracefully given. The Menu includes 'smaller' and 'bigger' dishes. Great for a solo eater. I could happily eat... More

The restaurant was fairly quiet for a weekday lunch, the basement feel with the view looking up at the passers-by creates a relaxed ambience, although some touches, like the bare light bulbs in mesh cages don't quite get the shabby/chic balance quite right. Their signature dish of crispy tapioca and prawn betel leaf with kaffir lime and green chilli was... More

We learned about CODA while watching a TV cooking show. On a recent trip to Melbourne to visit the Melbourne International Flower Show, we decided to find CODA and give it a try. It was a short walk down the block and across the street from our hotel, QT Melbourne on Russell Street. It lives in a basement location off... More

I had a quick dinner here on my own during a work trip. Not usually a great idea at a restaurant where the food is mostly for sharing, but the staff were accommodating and the food was fabulous. Excellent bar staff. I would recommend the smoked ribs.

Description
Upon opening our doors in 2009, we were thrilled to receive the The Age Good Food Guide's 'HatAward' and have maintained it ever since. Complementing these achievements, we are very proud of Head Sommelier, Travis Howe, who not only won Sommelier of the Year but also picked up the 2013 Wine List of the Year. Nestled in one of Melbourne's iconic laneways (basement Oliver Lane, and Flinders Lane), Coda is located in the busiest and most dynamic culinary precinct the city has to offer. A stone's throw away from the Yarra River, Flinders Street station and Federation Square, the restaurant enjoys hosting a diverse group of diners from frequenting locals who live and work on its doorstep to diners from all over the globe. Upon entering the restaurant you will be greeted by a member of our friendly team headed by Mykal and Kate Bartholomew and Executive Chef Adam D'Sylva. The trio has assembled a dedicated team with highly sought-after experience from many international and Melbourne-based restaurants. Coda's relaxed environment provides a versatile setting for a range of engagements. Whatever your occasion - from a quick pre-football meal, to a long Sunday lunch, business dining or a cosy seat for an anniversary - we look forward to your visit. While bookings are highly recommended, patrons without a reservation can enjoy the full menu at the bar.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
