I wouldn't rush back here. Our entre, Fried Camembert was really lovely. Chicken breast very dry, needed some sort of sauce. My friend enjoyed his pork belly. Service very slow. House wine dreadful. No Sav Blanc in stock as manager is sick. Had to settle for Chardonnay which wasn't very nice at all. Staff were lovely.

We ate an early dinner at the Mill. Sat outside and the service was good. I ordered a Kirin on tap and a bottle of Pinot. The pinot was out of stock as were my other 2 choices. The kirin was in fact James Squires which I don't like. They took it away and still charged me $15 for it.... More

As former city dwellers The Mill used to be a regular for us as a nice moderate priced restaurant, one of the best of Hardware Lane. Not anymore! We booked for 4ppl for my birthday and arrived to an empty restaurant. We chose to sit inside as it was cold but they hustled 2 table together in the cold window... More

Our waitress Angeline made sure we were looked after. The food was good and served efficiently. Prices are reasonable. Complimentary drink provided. Disappointing desserts but otherwise a nice outing

My first time to Hardware Lane on a Thursday night. The Menu at The Mill looked good. I was offered a free glass of wine, - which tasted like water - My entree was Oysters with Raspberry balsamic Verjus, very nice. My main was Porkbelly on mash. and that is all it was, A few slices of green apple under... More

The service and the food here was impeccable and we had such an amazing night here. Not a thing we could have asked for and the food was delicious.

Unimpressed with quality of food. Seafood Basket, overcooked and greasy. Pizzas appeared to be not made on premises. Small portions of other meals served. Overpriced. For a Saturday night the place was empty. That speaks volumes as to the quality of meals and service. There are better places to eat in Hardware Lane.

The Mill is so well located to take advantage of Melbourne's wonderful laneway culture and visitor experience. But what a disappointment on a cold Sunday night to find the place nearly empty and offering a very sub-standard menu and food to match. I didn't know people served fried camembert anymore, or grilled their bread and charged $4 for a side... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
