We’ve tried several times to get into GingerBoy via walk ups and booking but finally managed to get a table at this popular restaurant by booking well in advance and what a treat. The hustle and bustle was evident and created a great atmosphere as soon as you opened the door, with the staff busily preparing and ushering meals across... More

A few years ago Gingerboy was my favourite CBD restaurant. My husband and I had a much anticipated dinner there on a recent Saturday night and sad to say, we both left feeling a little unimpressed and somewhat disappointed. Two of our small sharing plates lacked flavour (the Wagyu spring rolls were great) and the Chicken Jungle Curry sauce was... More

We enjoyed dinner at Ginger Boy before seeing the show Book of Mormon ! We have never eaten here before and had no idea what to order so we asked the waitress to choose her favourites and boy did she pick winners ! Service was good and friendly and every dish was amazing! Highlights was the chicken ribs, king fish... More

Nice green curry .... Ok crying tiger .... Options are a bit limited but the food is well cooked, prepared and presented. Cocktails are OK but pricey IMHO

From all the positive reviews, I had high hopes (once we eventually got a booking). Each dish was ok.. but that was it. I didn't find anything particularlly unique or special - most of the dishes could have come out of my kitchen at home. It's a shame, as the hype+great looking menu had me excited. I'd go back if... Part of the Melbourne Food Festival was The Ginger Boys 10 th Birthday and we just had to be part of it , and what a fabulous celebration it was . Casual dining at its best with the most delicate and flavoursome finger food to die for . The food was plentiful and a never ending surprise with each platter... More

We went in for lunch on a Sunday and were initially disappointed when told we had to have the Set-Menu. But our disgruntlement turned into sheer delight as each of the 10 courses were laid out before us. Each one is a beautifully crafted picture! Each one offered new tantalizing flavours and textures. We were intimately absorbed into this wonderful... More

Visited Gingerboy with a largish group for dinner. Staff were great; informative, efficient and very accommodating of my coeliac requirements. Food was superb! As a confirmed meat lover it was with some trepidation I ordered the vegetable jungle curry; it was divine. Our entire group was impressed with everything we ordered.

Disappointing not to be able to eat a la carte .The Sunday set menu didn't do it for me . The first three courses were really nice but the rest of the menu wasn't very interesting... cold noodle salad with pickled vegetables, the tofu, yellow eye mullet koi pla . The crispy egg noodle with eggplant and the jungle curry... More

Description
The dining experience at Gingerboy is centered on a modern Australian adaptation of the Asian hawker-style street market food. The restaurant's hustle and bustle, its fast-paced, youthful and dynamic environment is influenced not only by the dining culture of Southeast Asia but also by buzzing Asian marketplaces and an Asian sense of colour and fun.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
