We were in Melbourne to see 'The Book of Mormon' at the Princess Theatre which happens to be near The European so decided on a pre-theatre dinner at this favorite restaurant. Saturday night reservation was imperative and we were seated at 6.00pm. There were two 'Fried Zucchini Flowers, crab and smoked honey, a Moreton Bay Bug salad and a Steak... More

I mostly come here on a Friday morning for breakfast with the newspaper and no one disturbing me. I love it. Today however I joined my mum for a birthday lunch and we weren't disappointed. Whilst it took a little longer than normal to have our order taken we were so impressed with the wine selection and a shared seafood... More

The European has updated their Breakfast menu. The coffee, fresh cold pressed juices are perfect. We had an excellently cooked nut and seed bread with poached eggs and house baked beans with ham hock. The Bircher was very fresh and flavoursome. Staff are super professional and efficient and genuinely friendly. We went twice on this weekend trip. Brilliant

Fab food lovely atmosphere and wine delicious! Disappointing that there was a 15% surcharge for Sundays. Made the bull quite pricey.

We entertained clients at The European and were extremely happy. The food was delicious, well presented and well portioned. The wine list is huge and caters to a wide range of budget. Staff we polite and attentive. We will be back.

We really enjoyed everything about our dinner here. Great service, appetisers and the chateaubriand beef barely needed a knife to cut it. Delicious. And quite good value. With a $55 cote de Rhone red wine we still paid $100 each.

Ive had coffee here before but this time tried breakfast with a friend. We were not disappointed. But what to eat ! We enjoyed birchner muesli, amazing pancakes and maple syrup. Tea and coffees. Great staff. Prices great. Highly recommend this for any time of day. We did not try baked custard tarts (portuguese) or lemon curd slice but they... More

It was Wednesday in the midst of a bid week so myself and a couple of work colleagues decided to had a couple of drinks after work before heading home. We headed to the European because it has tables on the footpath, a lovely view of Parliament hose and they have an excellent wine list. The staff are very attentive... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
