As it turned out, apparently Charles Dickens had once opened this tavern and he sure knew what he was doing! With a nice little frontage onto Collins Street to watch the passing parade we enjoyed a few beers and wines before leaving for a pre-booked...More

Got us in the bar with a, Happy Hour, billboard. Explained the billboard was old owners sign and they just left it out. We should have left, instead we overplayed for a beer and a glass of wine that were just okay. Don’t bother to...More

Good range of drinks and food on offer, had a chicken salad with extra wedges which was more than enough. Very lively atmosphere and some people were even playing cards! Staff offered a tasting of wine so I could make my selection. Great value and...More

Had family visiting from the UK and my dad had good memories of this place and wanted to have dinner there. The pub decor has never been updated in years and feels dirty and greasy. We ordered food, ok but expensive. Asked for malt vinegar...More

Walking down the stairs into the basement the bar is situated conveniently off Colin’s street. To be fair they seem to have based the decor on a London pub of forty years ago with the addition of flat screens. The food looked good value from...More

Firstly this is not a spot for a romantic meal, unless you fancy 1980's style football memorabilia. The venue looks like a tired London pub from the distant past, but saying that, if you want a lunchtime meal and a pint, then we were very...More

Stumbled across this place first day we arrived in Melbourne. We were walking and lost and starving. Stopped in for lunch. Great Pie and Parma. Will defiantly be back.

We found a notice board on the footpath advertising Tuesday night specials at the Charles Dickens Tavern. Walked down some stairs and inside. It looked cosy and the bar attendant was very friendly. Ordered drinks and waited until it was time to order a meal....More

Looking for something different in Melbourne we found it at Charles Dickens Taven. The service was quick and the food was very enjoyable. The atmoshpere was also enjoyable after a day at the Cricket.

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air
