Thank God there are hundreds of restaurants in Melbourne. Our first and last visit to this den of sadness gave us food that was well presented and cooked but it paled against the drab and morbid atmosphere. The staff were the saddest bunch of misfits I have ever been subjected too. A big miss, you can do much better.

We had a couple of hours to spare before dinner so we met friends at the bar here for pre dinner drinks. Even at 7pm on a Saturday evening the bar was empty so that should have told us something. The place was cold and lacking in atmosphere while the drink prices were high. The girl at the bar was... More

Excellent decor but that's where it stopped. Tuesday night and only three tables occupied - we should have known. For our group of five four main courses arrived after a long dekay with side dishes then a five minute wait for the fifth main. All served on cold plates so food was equally cold very quickly. Largely ignored for drinks... More

Started well, nice scenery, great service, good presentation, good wines at a decent price. The food was ok but not as refined as you would expect for the price. Quantities were also not well aligned. Very small on savoury (beetroot puree announced on one dish but you could not taste it. Edame present 2 grains). Not so much a food... More

Visited for business lunch. Restaurant well presented and wait staff excellent. All food ordered was lovely. Great bread and oil to start. I ordered the rendered chicken and colleagues had salmon. Food well cooked and presentation was superb. Wine list limited but excellent quality. Only reason rated 4 stars is the price. Expect to pay to dollar. I would consider... More

My friends and I had dinner last night for a combined birthday dinner. We have dined here before, and found the atmosphere very different. The food was as good as previously, but very quiet atmosphere for a Saturday night. There was only one staff, obviously because of the lack of bookings. She was lovely ad very knowlegeable re food and... More

My husband was given as a gift a "6 Course Compartido Tapas with Sangria" experience. We arrived at 7pm and were seated on a couch downstairs. The staff were very friendly and enthusiastic, the service quite quick. The food was palatable but disappointing as we were expecting it to have more of a Spanish flavour. I would describe the food... More

Arrived there at 12.10pm on my lunch break to use the remaining amount of my Good Food gift card ($47). I was the only person in the restaurant and it looked classy, the waitress was friendly and chatty & so I was looking forward to an enjoyable experience. I ordered the scallops as a main course (8) & a glass... More

We have been to Vue de mond, the press club, Ezard, Taxi and plenty of gastro and other styles of restaurants and this is by far the worst! $350 for a meal that was worth no more than $120. It was not a degustation and more mini meals, no food engineering here, no texture and taste balance and certainly no... More

We went to celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday after having been to Bluestone on previous occasions. We chose the degustation menu and found it to be very ordinary - scallops nice, pork belly cold, quail overcooked, kangaroo ok and the cheesecake thick and g luggage. All very, very expensive for a very ordinary meal. Won't be going back

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
