The decor is welcoming, the Canadian waitress very kind and helpful. A slight incident means that a not so cheap bottle of red Australian wine is knocked over. Apologies from the staff. Stains on the paper cloth absorbed.... it should have been replaced .... but no! The food being served is delightful and proportions are excellent. No plate provided for... More

We dine whenever we come to Melbourne for a visit at Bergerac. It is consistently good quality food, pleasant wine choices and good service. We enjoyed the lamb rack and the porterhouse steak. Beautifully cooked. And we always love the never ending bread supply! But beware don't eat too much.

A fantastic atmosphere of warmth and friendly without being too over imposing. I would recommend to anyone for that special occasion. Friendly service. And that creme brulee. Yum! They may move at the end of the year but I will make the effort to follow them. Wine list was impressive and having the victory point cab sav was great to... More

We were entertaining some friends from the USA and Carole and I were anxious to show them a wide variety of the wonderful restaurants Melbourne has. Thus, after strong deliberation we chose Bergerac is one of our restaurants we wanted to visit. None of us were disappointed with the result and the night was quite simply put, scintillating. The food... More

We went there to celebrate a birthday, and from the moment we entered the restaurant it became a sensual experience. The restaurant has character, from carpet, white cloth tables, soft chairs, the soft pink tomes, the lighting, very warm inviting, cosy and romantic. The waiters were French and very welcoming. The food was beautifully cooked ie pepper stay and veal... More

This was a return visit and I was pleased to see that Bergerac has passed the test of time. Visiting on Monday night it was quiet, the food good and the staff attentive.

Last Christmas we had lunch at Bergerac and loved it. Being in Melbourne for the weekend we booked to have Sunday dinner with Family. Bergerac is a little bit of France in Melbourne and everything is done well. The French staff, the wine and the food are all special. Well done Bergerac. We will return again.

While not on the list of latest hipster eateries, Bergerac does what it does extremely well with no gimmicks. Fresh, quality produce cooked beautifully in a modern French style. The Coquille St Jacques were a perfect example with seared scallops served with cauliflower puree, pea oil and pear, not a shell or breadcrumb in sight. Simple, fresh and delicious. Mains... More

A group of six of us came here for a late night dinner after a celebration network function. They were very accommodating and provided us with great service but were not intrusive. The oysters were fresh and well presented. Steak was perfectly done. The wine list was extensive but not confusing with a good range for taste and price choice.

The service has dropped off as they appear to be understaffed and using inexperienced backpackers. The food it of a reasonable standard for the average punter wanting some French cuisine. I would have given it 5 stars but in the last few years it's dropped.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
