Having enjoyed dining at Bergerac before we wondered about whether or not some of the old King St. charm would be felt at Bergerac's new location being 555 Lonsdale St. The immediate impression was the interior atmosphere 'had' changed from a traditional style to a modern Trés Chic interior designed to be timeless. The comfortable lounge style bench seating remains... More

We arrived here one Friday night during early January and the three of us (two adults and one child) were able to be seated without a booking. The decor and table setting was quite nice, our table had one side against the wall with bench-type seats and cushions. The wait staff have French accents for extra authenticity, and the menu... Typical French menu: Onion Soup, snails, coq au vin. The onion soup was rather gluggy, their filet steak a tad tough. The confit duck thighs just so-so. The pommes frites soggy. In all the food and service were nothing to write home about.

After reading some of the good reviews, my wife and I decided to book a table at this restaurant for Christmas lunch. We are from the UK and are enjoying an extended holiday in Australia, so as we were away from friends and family at this time of year, we really wanted a special lunch on Christmas Day. We booked... Magnifique! Priced at 95 per person this is a must if you dont want the hassles of cooking your own Christmas lunch. The menu is fixed. You will get everything listed. There are three courses with two appertifs in between the courses. First course were hot and cold seafood platters. Two types of oysters, salmon, deep fried school prawns and... More

They are on the move, but only a few doors up. Outstanding food and terrific service. Well worth the walk from Swanson St.

Excellent French food and equal level of service. Today I had lunch at Bergerac and found myself asking the question why haven't I heard of this restaurant before and more importantly why haven't I been here before? I had 3 courses simply because the food was so good crab ravioli ,seafood en brochette and creme brûlée. Nothing has ever tasted... More

Decore and first visual impressions were good, as was the first dish, goose liver pate with caramalised apple. But it went pear shaped from there, two different steaks with bernaise sauce. The bernaise was unbelievably 'vinergary', like no one had tested it before leaving the kitchen. Steak frite was a thick piece of rump with thick highly variable shaped and... More

Decor was dated but lovely and very French. Food was very tasty and pretty good value for money. Staff were attentive and just loved their French accents... ooh la la. Will visit again for sure

The decor is welcoming, the Canadian waitress very kind and helpful. A slight incident means that a not so cheap bottle of red Australian wine is knocked over. Apologies from the staff. Stains on the paper cloth absorbed.... it should have been replaced .... but no! The food being served is delightful and proportions are excellent. No plate provided for... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
