5 of us had lunch . We ordered the lunch meeting banquet menu . The tables had crisp table cloths and were spaced well . Food was portioned and plated individually which was nice . I think it’s the traditional silver service . Used Plates taken away after each course . All the dishes taste great . Salt and pepper calamari , San Choy bau , Peking duck , king prawns , eye fillet steak with Cantonese sauce , fried rice and a fantastic crispy fried battered banana with ice cream . It was a luxury to have this service and food was delivered at the right pace for an unhurried lunch . We were there from 1 pm. to 4.30 pm. Restaurant is fully licensed and we ordered wine by the glass . Tea 🍵 is complimentary. Will be back again for unhurried good service and the food .

I was introdced to Bamboo House by the late Martin Louey, who was known as "the Mayor of Chinatown." That was almost 40 years ago, and it has kept up its high standards ever since.. I have been there many times for business meetings, at the invitation of Chinese people, which is a good sign. When I invite Chinese people for lunch, I always take them to the Bamboo House. The maitre d' always looks after us.

The best Chinese meal I’ve eaten. The food was fresh, sooo delicious!! We shared beef dumplings, scallops, steamed prawns with ginger. Fried rice. All were a taste sensation. Accompanied with beautiful wines. Jimmy our waiter was a gracious host. Highly recommend. I will return.

For an evening out in Melbourne we decided on a Chinese option and the Bamboo House was recommended to us as a high-class option. We booked early in evening as the restaurant was due to open and although they opened the doors somewhat late, we were swiftly seated and our order taken. The waitress was efficient although not particularly forthcoming on the contents and nature of many of the dishes. We ordered a starter of Peking duck which when it came was prepared for us in the pancakes rather than we make up our own, even so it was good. We then followed this with a variety of dishes. Everything was good without being outstanding, overall the restaurant has an old traditional feel but lacks something in overall atmosphere.

I wish I could give a negative rating of -100. I have never been treated with such arrogance and rudeness at a restaurant. We ordered a whole Peking duck and though the website says it will be cut in front of us at the table, the waiter or someone cut it in the kitchen. When we asked the waiter he rudely said this does not happen any more. The pieces on the plate really did not look like a whole duck. He proceeded to wrap the duck in the pancakes without explanation. When we requested to have the duck on our table (as we prefer to have some without the pancake) he said he must wrap it up himself. Then I suggested that it would have been good if he had explained the procedure first. He replied "DID YOU ASK?" with great arrogance. I have always believed that in hospitality "you NEVER argue with the patron" but he went on and on. The duck tasted good but the night was totally ruined thanks to this person who is not a waiter's bootlace. I most certainly DO NOT RECOMEND this establishment. If the owner keeps this guy on due to a shortage of staff at the moment then it is totally false economy.

Twice I ordered delivery service. The food was excellent and plentiful. However I did not receive utensils, chopsticks or napkins with either order. I thought the first time it was an oversight but the same thing happened with the second order. I am staying in a local hotel and had no access to any utensils. How sad that a restaurant with excellent food was so negligent to realize that utensils should be included with ALL take out or delivery orders. While I will be here several more weeks I definitely will not order from this restaurant again.

Enjoyed a relaxing evening with friends at Bamboo House. The manager, Anne, looked after us well. We chose a number of entree dishes followed by a main. Each entree was brought to the table separately and served to each individual (5 of us). We were given time to enjoy each dish. Food was of high quality. Enjoyed the mussels, prawns, duck, lamb cutlets and beef dumplings. Ended the meal with some rice and sweet and sour pork, again served individually to each of us. Look forward to returning to Bamboo House in the near future.

Amazing service and delicious food! Can’t wait to go back! Peking Duck was the highlight! We arrived for dinner as a large family group, 4 adults, 3 children and a baby, without a booking and were welcomed and seated immediately. Food arrived quickly and they made sure the kids food came promptly. Was all sensational!

Lovely food, recommend a visit. luckily they managed to sit the seven of us as walks ins. Food was yummy but would have loved a vegetable side option rather than a more expensive main veggie meal. Staff friendly and even made up the duck pancake portions for everyone.

Could not possibly speak higher of the service or the food here… absolutely beautifully prepared dumplings following by a perfectly cooked and presented Peking duck. If Peking duck is your jam this is the best place to get it. The food is top notch but the service is even better

We went here for diner on the weekend, despite the mixed reviews thought we’d give it a go for my birthday. Well, positives, the food was lovely it’s pricey but we don’t mind paying for good food when the service is also good, however the negative is the service was terrible, rude and matter a fact, no personal service or care taken which took away from the ambiance of the evening. We will not go back as it was overall disappointing.

Service was impeccable. The waiter sat us quickly to our table with drinks and food menus. Filled our water glasses and then left us to have time to decide what to order. They have an extensive menu broken down into categories. We got pork wonton as an appetizer. We then had the sweet and sour pork, sliced beef tenderloin in black bean sauce and chicken fillets with seasonal vegetables. Food was absolutely delicious each dish had its own good point. The waiter asked whether we needed cutlery at the time of taking our food order. They also have a large dessert menu so save room.

I have been eating here for over 20 years. The food is fantastic as to the service. Oysters, Scallops, Dumplings, Calamari and Duck. If there is room for dessert there are also a few favourites. The place is run by Anne who needs no introduction. You feel at home the minute you enter to the minute you leave. The wine list is extensive and whether you are looking for a family affair, business or couples location, the different break off rooms cater for all. Great location, great food, great service. Anyone i have taken or introduced keeps returning.

Yum yum yum. Food was great, was surprised by the quality of Chinese food they serve here even thogh I wasn’t expecting much from a Chinese restaurant in Melbourne. Had Peking duck, sweet sour soup, scallops, chicken and the red bean pancake. Red bean pancake is awesome and highly recommended to try .

My wife and I dined here on New Year's Eve. There was the option of an early or late sitting – we chose the early option. Again there were options off the menu or banquet – we took the latter. Six courses and all were delicious. Service was excellent. A comprehensive wine list is available. As you would expect New Year's Eve is more expensive than ordinary nights. Highly recommended

Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
