Visited Bamboo house back in 2016 and was impressed then, and we returned recently and the service and food quality is still exceptional. Our favourite, Peking Duck was just as I remembered and presently well. The staff are friendly and quick to respond, and the décor a little upmarket from your normal Chinese restaurant. Situated further up Little Bourke Street... More

After advising staff at a city hotel about our horrific dining experience at Shark Fin Inn, they recomended Bamboo House. Well their recommendation was spot on. This fine dining Asian restaurant only has 1 sitting, so you don't feel rushed to complete your meal. The food is awesome, the staff highly experienced. I will be a return diner to Bamboo... More

Three Italian friends have never experienced Chinese cuisine before and what an experience. We had a number of meals and shared to allow every one a chance to taste a variety of dishes. From the Sangchowbow to the deep fried ice cream every dish was a delight. The stand outs were the Peking Duck and the combination seafood birds nest... More

In terms of price, quality, service, and its overall position in Melbourne's Little Bourke Street Chinese restaurant hierarchy, Bamboo House is nowhere near at the level of the Flower Drum, but it's clearly a cut above the majority of the Cantonese eating houses on that famous strip. Bamboo House offers classic Cantonese banquet style dining. The table cloths are white... More

When our party asked the waiter to bring us a selection of entrees (starters) and main courses, we expected some quite substantial servings. Instead we were provided with only entrees and no mains. While the starters were certainly delicious they did not provide us with the culinary delights that we expected and asked for.

Love this restaurant. The staff are outstanding and everyone is made to feel as though they are special, and the food is just out of this world. Give it a go and you will not be disappointed.

The English menu is misleading in its translation and we received a dish that isn't what we ordered. We were given a haughty lecture about how Chinese dishes were called in Australia (we are visiting from Hong Kong) and that it was all our fault. We didn't want it but were forced to pay for it - even in Hong... More

We strolled in here for a late lunch. We were seated immediately and ordered a couple drinks. Food was fairly good. The duck I ordered was tender and tasty. My spouse had chicken that was well prepared. Our waitress did not keep us in drinks. We had to flag down Andy to request more. Our server did try to remove... More

To be honest you can't really go wrong in Little China Town if you look around for bustling establishments full of people. I'd not been here before however my friends have this on their list as one of their favorites and invited me along. Extensive menu from seafood, to duck, and anything in between. Even the trusty lemon chicken was... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
