We went to Chinatown one evening looking as you would expect for Chinese food and ending up at this little fastfood Japanese restaurant. We enjoyed it so much the first time that we went back again for a lunch too the next day. Good quality food at cheap prices this was a great little find. It seems to always be busy and they have a job to keep the tables clean, other than that all was good.

My score 4.0 stars. Considering how cheap the food is I had to give it a good score. Picked up Vegan Katsu curry & Tofu curry for dinner - service was helpful & friendly. Interior was basic but clean. Considering for a lot of places vegetarian food is an afterthought or a bit token, the dishes I chose were both quite good. I would return.

Rice workshop is very well located in the middle of the city centre and serves good Japanese food, from various rice dishes to gyozas. Prices are reasonable which makes it a good option if you're craving some Japanese bowls.

Absolutely careless. I found a piece of hair in my meal. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry. They should wear hairnets, this is unacceptable. I felt so disgusted and disappointed with my meal. Don’t go here if you don’t want hair in your meal!

Thinking of something Japanese, quick and yummy? You are in the right place.
Rice workshop introduces itself as a Japanese rice bowl bar that offers quick Donburi (rice bowls) and bento boxes at great value.
It has many stores around Melbourne but this particular one has always been in Chinatown for more than 5 years now.
We were recently visit to try their winter menu, Spicy Pork Belly bowl.
We also tried their Grilled Teriyaki Salmon with some of their sides such as vegetables pancakes, fried squid and fried scallops.
Truly love their selections of side dishes which you can pick yourselves upon ordering your food at the counter.
Spicy Pork Belly bowl comes with salad too like everything else, the juicy pork belly is not too spicy, just enough kick for a mild donburi style dish.
The Grilled Teriyaki Salmon is well cooked and flaking easily as you would want from a perfectly cook Salmon.
The teriyaki is light and sweet and so nice to be enjoyed with the rice.
If you are a matcha fan, you may opt for their soft-serve.
We always buy it during summer, especially with the charcoal cone.
It is super great value and taste great. Too bad our soft serve was slightly too soft otherwise it would be perfect :)
The service is super swift, served hot and fresh. Rice Workshop is definitely your go-to place for a quick, good quality lunch with great value.

In Simple Words 'FANTASTIC'
Eating Japanese at is a bloody Yummy Deal.
Ordered a Katsu Chicken Ramen in a Pork Broth and Teriyakki Chicken with Rice and Salad. Both were the Dishes Of The Day. The broth was rich in flavor and Katsu Chicken was perfectly crispy. Teriyaki chicken was so tender and super moist.
Not much for Vegetarian or Vegans to choose from but it's definitely a haven for Meat lovers.
Attendants are attentive but not too friendly probably because they ain't very fluent with English.
Definitely returning.

Although it looked enticing from outside, we should have realised that the absence of queues outside , unlike others in the street, might have been a warning sign. Our bowls were unmemorable and oily.

Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
