Hotel restaurants can be a bit hit and miss. Often the food and service are off or the room that needs to suit both massive buffet breakfasts try to create intimate cozy dinners without much success Really happy that Allegro is doing the best they can in all fronts Food- fresh, tasty, creative and no sign of lazy chefs using... Read about the express lunch in the newspaper the other day and decided to try it while in the CBD.For $39.5 for 2 courses or $52 for 3 courses with a glass of wine, it was very good value. Wanted 3 dishes on the menu, but stomach said two would be enough!! So decided on snapper for main and lemon... More

Dinner for 3 Sunday night was very enjoyable. Waitstaff were attentive and friendly. Prawns with green garlic were nice although very garlicy!! Carpaccio was flavoursome & well presented. Whole snapper was nicely cooked and the eye fillet steaks were great! Fries were a tad salty. Atmosphere quiet and relaxing. Great choice!

Second time here and found that a new menu has been implemented. Came here for a business lunch and really enjoyed the new menu. Especially the twist on the deserts and we ordered the "cheese board" desert. Looked like a cheese platter but was actually a desert....well done. My only disappointment was the seats near the window were uncomfortable. The... More

Allegro pays exquisite attention to detail and my breakfast experience here was outstanding. The presentation of the food was matchless, while the variety of fruit, smoothies and juices on offer was superb. Omelettes could be ordered from the waiting staff and the results of the egg chefs' efforts were second to none! I cannot wait to return someday for arepeat... More

Good quality produce is the signature of this restaurant which is a favourite of ours. The style of cooking is modern with good attention to detail and presentation. The dishes do not dissapoint. The eye fillet is great and so is the duck which we tried on this occasion. The wine list is good. This restaurant is part of the... More

I ordered the brunch our first morning and it was disappointing, especially for the price and the bacon was limp and very fatty - not crispy at all. The service was excellent and opens at 6am which is great for the jet lagged customers. Once I realized that the brunch was not for me, I ordered from the ala carte... More

We stayed at the Westin in Melbourne for our last three nights in Melbourne. We didn't want to spend hours on lunch, as would rather be out sightseeing. We had a great dinner at Allegro the night before and was told about their express lunch, which being a city hotel, must cater for business people. Great set menu selection. For... More

We had an early dinner here midweek so it was quiet when we arrived at Allegro. We were looked after by Suki and another chap, whose name escapes me. They were both very affable fellows. My only gripe was I had to speed eat my nicoise salad entree towards the end because mains were coming out. Perhaps wait staff and... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
