As always, I am generally very cautious when I visited a Singaporean/Malaysian restaurant and did not want to set my expectations high. However, Mamak exceeded my expectations in food quality and authenticity and I applaud it for that. Prices are Australian, so do be prepared.

The city is full of Asian eateries and Mamak is consistently above average. Loud, vibrant and relaxed our Sunday lunch ticked several boxes, it had to be kid friendly, (food and atmosphere), reasonably priced and authentic. I had the Rojak for the second time and my dining companions had chicken, roti and veggie curry. We all had the delicious lime... More

Had always seen a line up however did not pay any attention. We found ourselves in the city wanting a casual dining experience. We took BYO and ventured into Mamak and were not disappointed. A small menu that they deliver perfectly. The food and service were impeccable. Thank you for a delicious meal and a great night.

Had some takeaways here and it did not disappoint me. The stir fry kangkung and nasi goreng were delicious. Very authentic taste. The place was alright.

Authentic, consistently-good Malaysian favourites which are reasonably priced. Service is prompt and obliging. They do the roti canai particularly well here, with it being served piping hot and gorgeously flaky in a ball instead of a flat bread. The nasi lemak is of a high standard, full of flavour and well-presented. Another must-try is the teh tarik, a Malaysian hawker... More

Had cravings for their roti canai and was too lazy to change out of my pyjamas to go out, so, ordered it through Foodora. Still the best roti in Melbourne. As I needed to order minimum $25 worth of food, I ordered their regular roti canai, roti bom and roti kaya. Should have just ordered three roti canai as it's... More

Really enjoyed this restaurant, almost as much as Japanese Gyoza Bar (Gyoza Gyoza) two nights earlier and incredibly the bill here was also only $55. I've been eating at the wrong restaurants! This menu is roti (made fresh in many ways), satay, curries, a few mains and nasi lemak. It is not complicated and it is does not try too... More

Ringing through a take away order the other night the food was ready in under 15 minutes. The flavour was amazing, but we could only use the tiniest amount of the sauce pots supplied as they were so hot (but very flavoursome).

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
