after what felt like interrupting the waitress from a leisurely conversation we were eventually seated. The specials menu was small, but there are options for most diets, but i was a tad annoyed that there wasn't a dairy free guacamole. but aside from that the location is in a lovely little alley way, that is inviting and great for gatherings... 1976 called, and they want their decor back!!! This was an unusual experience, the restaurant was almost like a bunker, there was a MASSIVE industrial fan, at the end of the 'Room', which a poor lady had resting against her arm!!! The menu was limited, and expensive, for what it was. It did have a good flavour, on the up... More

3rd stop in our cocktail happy hour search of the hidden bars. Delicious tequila options and the trio if dips are to die for.

Most delicious food and quick service. Hardware lane has a really nice atmosphere to it. Had a frozen strawberry margarita, cheese stuffed jalapenos which were to die for and a pulled pork enchilada. Seriously get the jalapenos (they weren't too spicy)

Go here for the atmosphere, not the food. We had an enjoyable experience here, good service, but our fajitas were very plain in flavour and the drinks, while strong, tasted of sub-quality rum. Great place to enjoy dinner on hardware lane but not if you're after excellent Mexican cuisine.

I was eating outside and was having the best burrito I've ever had. The presentation of the dish was nice and did exactly have on what I've ordered (no beans, extra sour cream). The meal was extremely tasty and nourishing. The tempranillo wine was really excellent ant the waiter was very attentive.

Hardware lane invariably offers something for everyone. This time we're were intent on something other than the 'tried and true' Italian. The Amigos menu looked inviting and the notion of happy hour (5.00-7.00pm) coinciding with our timing was the clincher. We enjoyed people watching while we sipped on margaritas and sol beers. We were pleasantly surprised with the look of... More

Although I do not visit Mexican restaurants often this one was recommended by the concierge of the hotel I stayed in and for sure was not disappointed. The staff was very attentive and nice and food good. Can recommend this place for a informal sit down lunch or dinner.

Have only eaten in Hardware lane a couple of times but well worth the experience. Amigos is the only Mexican restaurant on the strip so doesn't seem to have the usual spruikers that the others have. Service was friendly and faultless. Happy hour drinks from 5-7 and people watching on the street is half the fun. Highly recommend the beef... More

Tacos were very tasty and tasted fresh and full of flavour. Terrible sangria which tasted like spiced syrup with a slice of orange. Good service and cool vibe. Need to ban smokers though as its one sure way to ruin a meal. All in all positive experience.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
