The Shamrock Restaurant is upstairs in the Celtic Club. Downstairs on street level is the Tara Bar, where you can drink of course, have pub food, watch sports on TV, and hear live music. The restaurant offers lunch Tuesday to Friday 12-2.30pm and dinner on Fridays only, 5-9pm. I've eaten in the Shamrock with big groups who've booked out all... More

We were very disappointed with our meal here, such a shame as the waitress was lovely but the food very very poor. For an establishment that has been around for a long time it really needs to lift its game. The restaurant upstairs was so old fashioned it was like it had been untouched for 20 years. But its the... Don't expect an Irish experience here. Food is just pub food. From their dinner menu. Chips, wedges, beef nachos. BOCCONCINI AND BASIL FLAT BREAD, Mexican beef flat bread, fish & chips, chilli con carne, squid,Haloumi salad, Parmagiana, Cajun chicken caesar salad, Steak, Catch of the day, Pumpkin and goat cheese rissotto, chicken goujons. The only things vaguely 'Irish' are Beef... More

Dinner for two late last month. Mid week and pouring with rain although warm and friendly inside. We ate in the bar and not the restaurant and it was busy with friends having a quiet drink and a few others for dinner. Menu offers plenty of choices and we had the spicy lamb sausages with veges and the home made... More

Nice place for watching sports events or hang out with friends for some good pints. Sport events are shown on big screens. If your looking for nice food on the other hand, you should try somewhere else. The burger was pretty expensive and very decent. The other dishes didn´t look very appealing as well.

Restaurant and bar was the best experience on our recent trip. Food and drink was great as was the price. Really nice genuine staff. By no means 5 star but definitely worth a visit if you are near by

Thank Shaun M

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
