Dropped in for breakfast. Nice people, friendly service. Coffee great, food fresh and well cooked, portions a bit small for the price but tasty. Eggs were magnificent. Please try.

May I say average at best, I visit Hardware Lane quite often generally for breakfast meetings I had a breakfast meeting with 10 business people today and a mix of choice from the menu ranging from poached eggs on sourdough to French toast with bacon or smashed avocado on sourdough toast. Presentation was very relaxed the French toast that I... More

Affogato is becoming our regular brunch spot on the weekends after stumbling upon it one cool and overcast day. Brunch menu is extensive (3 pages) and do an excellent meal. Do believe brunch is all day on the weekends, not sure about week days. Coffees are also excellent, and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

We sought this place out (which involved us in quite a walk from our hotel) for our last breakfast in Melbourne based on the positive reviews on TA. The food was OK but no more (we both opted for Affogato eggs but were not at all convinced by the 'hollandaise sauce'), and the coffee was rather too bitter for my... More

We stopped in for breakfast, not a lot of tables but we managed to get a table for 7. They were shorted staffed a waitress that day but service was still nice. Everyone loved their meals, although one had a salsa that the spice could of had a warning in the menu. My eggs were poached perfectly, I had them... More

Stopped in for a take away coffee and croissant. The coffee was ok, not the best. But the croissant was lovely. The staff were also very friendly

We had a delicious breakfast and superb flat white coffees at this little street cafe located in Hardware Lane (at the Bourke Street end). With friendly staff, great food and the delightful ambience of sitting outside I would definitely return next time I'm in Melbourne. My "Affogato" breakfast (poached eggs with smashed avacardo) was amazing. Do try this place -... More

With a late sleep in at our hotel, my wife & I went looking for an all-day breakfast cafe in the Melbourne CBD, we tried Hardware Societe on a recommendation however there was a 45-60 min wait and found this little gem of a place along the Hardware Lane. The coffee was simply fantastic and the two poached eggs &... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
