We have several small plates to try also a seafood paella. The paella was under cooked as the rice was still crunchy. It was also very very expensive for what we got. Also $50 for a litre of Sangria is way too much. Food was good, service was good I just can't justify the prices charged for what you get.

We happened upon this place when we were struggling to find a restaurant Friday night. Trip Advisor suggested Portello Rosso and we are so glad it did! In a lane way off Little Burke, it really is a hole in the wall, linked to a fabulous little cocktail bar upstairs. Beautiful, warm and inviting interior, with friendly and efficient staff!... More

The laneways of Melbourne are a treasure trove of delightful eateries and bars just waiting to be discovered. Add Portello Rosso to the discoveries. I just happened to notice the geraniums at the bars frontage to Warburton Lane. Thought it worth investigating Quirky little Spanish themed bar. We sat downstairs at the large table with bar stools. There are tables... More

We went to Portello Rosso for dinner last month while in Melbourne for a few days. Lots of delicious tapas and sharing plates and jug of sangria. Really enjoyed the laid back feeling of the place. Were seated near the cooking area and chatted a bit to the chef on duty who was great and a real hoot. Would go... More

The food was amazing, the service friendly and the atmosphere nice. The thing that lowers the grade was the bland and extremely overpriced sangria.

Spanish restaurant tucked away on a lane off Little Bourke St. Great food the best paella ever. Good service and wine list reasonably priced. Small restaurant so not good for groups of more than 6.

Was dying to try this place. Nice wine bar upstairs. I wanted something reasonably substantial to keep going on a long journey. Prawns were good but not quite substantial. Should have had the bravas. At least there was bread to fill up on. Was most disappointed to hear the young man waiting announcing specials to other customers nearby. My waiter... More

Tucked away out of sight of Melbournes hustle and bustle is the wonderfully delightful Portello Rosso, an intimate Spanish tapas restaurant. Food was wonderful and service was great! Only one tiny and extremely minor suggestion would be to remove the bay seating area at the bottom of the staircase! Did not feel at ease with high volumes of traffic (customer... More

We gravitate back to this 'alittle hard to find' tapas restaurant. The Chef's selection is our go to when we are feeling like a big tapas night. It's a very generous serving and great quality and whilst we have been here quite a few times there is enough diversity in the selections that it doesn't feel the same on each... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
