Recommended this place by my sister for good dumplings, she was not wrong! Delicious dumplings!! Enjoyed a late dinner for 4, had about 6-7 plates of dumplings, soups, pork belly & wine for around $150. Recommend the xiao long bau & chilli dumplings. Everything was super tasty & quick. Only complaint was that we felt a little rushed to leave... More

An authentic Chinese restaurant on 3 levels in Market Lane. Good value for money with generous portions and good quality food. We especially enjoyed the pork dumplings with fresh ginger on the side , prawns and vegetables and the delicious crispy duck. BYO wine. Well worth seeking out this pearl in Market lane.

I've dined here several times on a walk in basis for lunch and never been disappointed. The Xiaolongbao dumplings are a regular favourite. The green beans with pork are amazing and the calamari to die for. Do not come here if you are looking for touchy freely service. It is very busy and businesslike but just right for a quick... More

Hutong Dumpling bar is just off the main street in Chinatown and if you're going in a large group, I'd recommend booking in advance as it gets quite busy. There was only 2 of us but they fit us in and gave us 1.5 hrs to eat which was plenty of time. Dumplings are delicious, very authentic. Must try the... More

We were in Melbourne in December and were not able to get a table at Hutong Dumpling Bar so we had our fingers crossed that we would be luckier this time around. We got lucky. We selected a couple of different dumplings and a pot of Jasmine tea and could not of been happier. The restaurant is off Little Bourke... More

There are a lot if rave reviews if this little dumpling place. I find it a bit too rushed, the food good but not as tasty as others and the dumplings are average compared to some suburban establishments. It a good place to go before the theatre as they will get you in and out so you don't miss the... More

I never miss this place when I'm in Melbourne, and each visit reminds me why. Famous for their chilli wontons and xiao long bao, they never disappoint. In fact, I went out of my way this visit and had 2 serves of the wontons. Service here is pretty good for a chinese restaurant, plenty of staff and the way the... More

Settled in this spot for a quick lunch before a show & was not disappointed. We selected 5 Dumplings, spring rolls & salt & pepper squid. Our fav the crab dumpling & chili wontons the only one I would change was the pork pan fried dumpling a bit too much wrapping for me. Well priced along with a bottle of... More

Oh my goodness we fell in love with this place. So much that we ate at Hutong’s twice…something we never do when in a city for a short time. This was an exception. Sad part is we ordered the same exact thing twice. We shared the Pork Wontons in Hot Spicy Oil and the Szechuan Chicken with Peppers. Both were... More

Expected a lot more from this place based on reviews. For me the food was a bit bland And the dumplings weren't amazing but the place was full so booking a table is recommended

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
