I took the Japanese Shujinko ramen noodles and was rewarded with half an egg and several thick slices of roast pork and other ingredients, plus the delicious soup and thin noodles. I also had an icy-cold tankard of Kirin Megumi beer, my favourite. My order came out quickly and the Japanese staff were happy to have a chat.

The Good
Price is on point:
Bill was approx 67 AUD for
1x Shujinko Ramen and 1x Black Ramen, with Takoyaki and Karaage chicken, 1x Ramune
Service is good for a fast-moving restaurant
Queue moves fast. You'll need to have your name recorded at the counter before queuing outside.
Shujinko stock was nice.
Ramune was a nice pairing to the savory dishes.
The Average
Basically everything else :(
Noodle texture for both was more on the softer side but neither smooth nor firm enough to be above average; it's just your run of the mill commercial ramen/noodle which can be found at almost anywhere convenient :)
Stock for black ramen is meh; pales in comparison to Shujinko's, slightly spicy. Char Siews for both ramens were ok.
Nothing to rave about Karaage and Takoyaki; you can probably find a better version elsewhere.
Conclusion: Shujinko is definitely worth a first visit from price point perspective. But do not get your hopes up as you will definitely find better ramens elsewhere.
Worth a revisit?
No.

A long queue outside is often a good sign. Our order of Takoyaki, Karagge and Shinjinko Ramen was delivered promptly. My ramen was a tad salty and although the Puru Puru sparkling sake was refreshing it was quite small. I was left feeling thirsty after the meal. Staff was courteous and efficacious. Restuarant has nice atmosphere.

I did my research and this restaurant also featured on broadstreet for ramen .,so we made the trek. It was pretty full at 5 pm on a Sunday . The seating is pretty basic but the surrounding were not very clean . We ordered their signature ramen , gyoza and Karage chicken . Only the gyoza was edible . Karage … basic batter and nothing like the Karage we are used to . The ramen was oily and bland … it wasn’t cheap either $60 for the both of us . We won’t be back .

Rich wooden and warm atmosphere just like Japan. The ramen was tasty (signature) and the side of truffle chips, karaage, takoyaki and gyoza were delicious. It goes without saying we were more than satisfied when we left. We went with friends and being able to share the different foods was a great experience. Would go again.

Shujingko in Russell Street is the original ramen restaurant. I had cold ramen, which was delcious. I also had a Kirin Megumi, a very crisp and flavourful Japanese beer. To finish, I had a Calpisco Soda, a Japanese fermented dairy drink tha t like a lot. We also shared a tofu salad and some vegetarain ramen. Ramen are Japanesne noodles. By the way, you get a 5% discount for paying cash, a sign of the times,. Prices are reasonable, especially if you bring cash.

The food and service was good, but they have a limited range, so if you’re likely to try it only a few times. Just be mindful to check the price of drinks, a small lychee cider bottle (same size as a coke) is priced at $14, which was surprising since it wasn’t anything fancy. Good place for a ramen.

I visited this restaurant, as also its sister restaurant on Flinders Street, several times.
I tried a few different ramen bowls - all were delicious.
One time, for a change, and because I was really hungry, I had the ramen bowl and karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken served with a few salad leaves, mayo and slice of lemon). It was delicious. I waddled out of the restaurant - that full!
Service was friendly and prompt. The place reminded me of eating places I'd visited in Tokyo and Kyoto.
I will definitely be back.

Looking for what good ramen in Melbourne and decided to try this - being used to open 24/7.
I ordered traditional ramen, karaage chicken and sake. Overall good but the chicken wasn’t the best I have had. Busy tiny restaurant, quick and friendly service.

Visited after it was recommended to me by a work colleague. Had to wait for a seat but the wait was worth it. So delicious!

The place is cosy and quite busy. It feels like being in a ramen restaurant in Japan (having been there a couple times). The food is decently priced and tastes delicious.

Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
