Came here with my cousin and his family. Had a great meal food excellent. Great bar. However we were there when it was quiz night Unless your going for the quiz then don't go on this night!! Talk about being made to feel unwelcome. We wasn't making any loud noise we was just chatting normally. My cousin actually let it... More

Came highly recommended by our relatives and we wasn't disappointed. Ordered burgers but there was around 10 of us who ordered various different meals. I remember the fish was lovely. Plenty of beers and great atmosphere

If we weren't made aware of this pub prior to booking we possibly wouldn't have gone in. The external premises is very unassuming as is the interior, however once you enter the building the staff take care of the rest. Not only are they extremely knowledgeable about the menu but they are very friendly. It was suggested that we went... More

There are lots of restaurants to choose from in North Hobart and while unimpressive from the outside this pub delivers with tasty food at reasonable prices. We had the home made pie and salt and pepper squid, both very good. Good range of beers and wines, and great service

This became our "local" on our two visits to Hobart. It's a bit of an institution around North Hobart according to the locals and I can see why. Fabulous food, great selection of beer, cider, wine and live music. The staff are great, service good. Love it.

We were advised the Republic was the best live music pub in Hobart. Not when we visited! The place is scruffy ; the music was lousy; the service indifferent ; the clientele a mixed bag with a noisy crowd of old folks adding to the cacophony. We ordered drinks , stayed 10 minutes and left.

You would walk right past this place as it looks like a shabby suburban pub . We went for dinner only to be impressed . The place , well, OK a little tired pub . But wait the food is of exceptional quality and well above pub style food. The chef is defiantly not a pub cook and standards are... More

Having had crispy skin pork at a restaurant in Devonport I was wary of ordering it again, but was assured that there was indeed "crispy skin". I was not disappointed in the Crispy Skin Pork at all. Two of us had this and it was delicious and the pork was tender as well. One diner had beef cheeks which looked... More

A good place for reasonable pub menu. The specials board has good options, he tried the beef and Guinness pie and it was served with fresh salad and chips. I had the lunch menu beef burger which also came with chips - it was huge! A homemade beef patty which was nice. Although the venue is dated, the staff are... More

Visited here for dinner. There were five of us. Every one of us enjoyed our meal. I had the grilled fish and it was delicious. I would hurry back in an instant.

Description
One of the most popular pubs in Tasmania. Café style, warm and inviting atmosphere, great fun for lunch or a night out. Popular with a large, loyal local following. Award winning food, large wine selection and live music every day of the week. Also with 2 function rooms and a beergarden with BBQ facilities.name for itself until it became the empire in 1921 but not for the reasons we no it today, it was known for prostitution, drug dealing and all other nasty goings on it was not until it opened as the republic bar and café in 1997 That we started to get a name for ourselves not only as the premier live music venue in hobart but arts, politics and the great quality pub food as well! When it first opened the live music scene was close to non existent in hobart, starting off with generally only local music and concentrating on the genre of blues and jazz until slowly broadening the live music into pretty much all genres and this is when we started getting the bigger live acts here tex perking, tim rogers, magic dirt, jebediah and later on Augie march and Lisa Mitchell and pub rock favourites dallas crane. Also in the past we have had some big international acts here.
