In search of a pub type meal but in the open air, we found the The Vintage Café on Nurse Walk behind the main shopping street of The Rocks. Not much to look at, and a single row of tables facing a walkway, it nonetheless offered pleasant service, decent prices and good food. Husband had chicken Caesar at $17 AZ,... More

We had a pleasant dinner here of a variety of small dishes, all very good. This is a small place, a little hard to find, near the corner where Nurse Walk lane intersects with another lane. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service is good. Towards the end of the evening a guitarist played moody Portuguese music. Found... More

Located in one of my favourite places, this cafe does tasty food (the pizza is particularly nice) and the staff are friendly. It's also reasonably priced. However I love it mostly for the location along the Nurses Walk in The Rocks. Worth a visit.

Thought I had booked at 'Scarlett' but turned out to be The Vintage Cafe. Tempted by special of Barramundi or Steak for 30 dollars, including a glass of wine. Food was excellent and not a massive plateful. Tapas dishes dearer, but looked very good. Music was great too. Friendly service - and very honest! We gave the guy too much... More

We tried making reservations online, twice, it didn't seem to work, so we just called a few days before. There was no issue. We really wanted to go for the music. We had a good time, but once we got there, realized we weren't really hungry. We ordered the bread and cheese plate. It was as expected. We were kind... More

On our way to visit the nearby harbor bridge, we found this gem of a restaurant. This area of the city has been restored like it was a hundred years ago, and tiny restaurant fit in well. The steak sandwich was a thick piece of tasty meat, unlike the American thin style of steak. The walls had interesting photos of... More

Popped in here for a late lunch. Ordered few tapas to share, a pasta and a paella. Very slow, inattentive service, despite the fact the restaurant was half empty. Didn't like the atmosphere, too dark and very small tables outside. Will most probably not be back.

The Vintage Cafe has an interesting fusion of historical and modern decor offering a casual laid back atmosphere with good quality food at affordable prices. Only fresh produce is used with emphasis on local Australian seafood, wines, local and imported cheeses. The wine & beer list offers great quality, variety and value for money. A lot of creativity is found in the various dishes, providing a nice contrast between Spanish, Portuguese and Mediterranean food. Served all day, the traditional breakfast portion of the menu offers the Full Vintage Breakfast deal, with bacon, Chorizo, eggs to any taste and toast. For those with a big appetite, the Mediterranean Omelette filled with capsicum, tomato, Spanish onion, mushrooms, herbs and fetta cheese has plenty to get you going. Lunch is filled with options including fresh made to order salads, pizzas, sandwiches and specials of the day. Thu to Sun nights, selection of Paella and Tapas served in traditional clay dishes. What can be more romantic than the delightful sounds of live Bossa Nova & Jazz which can be heard Thu,Fri, Sat & Sun nighst and Sat & Sun noon. If you are looking for somewhere special, private and a local haven, take a stroll to The Vintage Cafe.

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
