Consistently good laksa and Hainan chicken rice make this place so popular with locals. And the prices are cheap too.

Food court vibe, place order and food is out within minutes. Busy at lunchtimes, hard to seat groups. Food is delicious, service is great.

Unassuming and quietly located at 58 Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD this restaurant has succeeded in preparing a local Penang favourite - Curry Laksa as it should be - just as it is in Penang the street food capital of the world. The owner who hails from Penang has maintained the original flavours magnificently. The flavour and texture of... More

Had we not been recommended to try the Laksa at Malay Chinese we probably would have walked past this unassuming eatery without a second glance. We are so glad we tried it! The service is fast and the laksa is delicious. Even on a Saturday lunch time in the business district the tables were full.

We were recommend to come here for lunch, and we were pleasantly surprised. The laksa was reasonably priced, delicious and fast. We were very impressed to find such good laksa such a distance from Chinatown. If you are up the northern end if the CBD, this unassuming eatery is definitely worth a visit!

Finally visited here recently and was impressed. Having been a big fan of To's in North Sydney for many years I was disappointed a few years back when it was sold and subsequently went down hill. Finally found somewhere comparable! I will be back!

The Laksa at Malay Chinese would have to be the best Laksa I have ever had, skinless chicken with a big spoon of extra ground chili is just to die for (and you just about do die with that much chili) I have had laksa all over the world, and this, well it is just superb, with a real depth... More

This is one almighty busy eatery. The crowds come in their droves but despite that, there is always a place which becomes free to sit down to eat. It is strictly counter service. Line up at the cashier, give your order, pay, then wait about five minutes and your food will be ready for you to take to take to... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
