We have been to the Malaya many times, each a great experience. Sadly we have to report that last week was a great disappointment. We took friends visiting from Italy hoping to impress them. It was not to be. First of all... service. Dreadful. Zero out of ten. It took 25 minutes (no exaggeration) to get the attention of the... More

Could not fault a thing! Service was attentive. Food was AMAZING! Ren dang Chicken melted in our mouth and the flavour was out of this world. Great view and delicious cocktails! Will be back!

A meal that lived up to my expectations. Can remember going to the Malaya many years ago in north Sydney and also in George street. We loved the roti canai and white fish in bamboo leaves. A gorgeous main meal of kapitan chicken and coconut beef rendang on the suggestion of our lovely waiter. Dessert was perfect, black rice pudding... More

I used to be a regular at the old Malaya, up the top-end of George St, and even before that in North Sydney. This was my first visit to the new location at King St Wharf, even though it has been there for years. While it has significantly glammed up since its George St days, I was delighted to find... We visited one evening when the restaurant was full. If you want to go it would be safer to make a reservation. It looked as though this is a place favoured by business people, business men in particular. We ordered two of the cheaper main courses and each had a glass of wine. $97. The food was tasty but the... More

We arranged for some interstate guests to join us for dinner at the Malaya. After a few minutes pondering through the menu we selected one of the banquets. The banquet included Salt and Pepper Prawns, Spanner Crab San Choy Bow and Coconut Beef Rendang. There were 7 offers in the selection. They were all simply perfect. The freshness and taste... More

Birthday Lunch- originally going to Fort Dennison but windy/wet day convinced us to cancel and rebook @ Malaya. Everything top rate from welcome, service and the food. Just loved the Crab Sang Choi Bow! Will be returning in near future.

Large bustling noisy Malaysian themed restaurant right down near darling harbour (western side). Enjoyable meal and good wine list. Pricing is up there but I'd imagine a lot would go towards rent in this location. Service was efficient. I think this Is a good group or business meeting restaurant.

We showed up without a reservation based upon trip advisor reviews. The manager was amazing - recognized our US accents, seated us at a table by the window and came by three times to make sure we had a fabulous experience. The food was terrific - would go back any time

Staying in Darling Harbour

Neighbourhood Profile
Darling Harbour
The original docklands of Darling Harbour have been transformed into a tourist mecca with entertainment for the whole family. Cockle Bay Wharf offers dining options from budget to upscale and million dollar views of the harbour. Young crowds gather on weekends for nightlife that ranges from salsa clubs to Dj’s. Families can visit the Chinese Gardens of Friendship or the Sydney Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. The Sydney Maritime Museum and the IMAX theatre are also popular attractions. The Harbourside Shopping Centre is a site unto itself, with hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars. On Saturdays in the summer, the city puts on a spectacular fireworks show along the harbour's shore and there are plenty of other free events during the year - Darling Harbour Fiesta, VIVID’s light installations and the Sydney Festival, just to name a few.
