This restaurant may have a charming setting in a little alleyway, but the food is anything but delightful. I was looking for the delicious freshness that good Japanese food can offer, and a bit of respite from the Sydney summer heat. I got neither. The plate of sushi that I ordered was meagre, inexpertly sliced and of very poor quality.... More

My wife had been here before. We were on our way to The Stone Roses concert at the Opera House and with the chaotic travel mess that was Sydney last night, we opted for something quick and easy. The entrees were delicious and the mains were sublime. I'm just really going to have to update my chopsticks skills The restaurant... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by friends of our son. It was great for lunch. We both had bento boxes-mine was pork and my wife's was chicken teriyaki. They were tasty as were the accompaniments-the miso soup, salmon sushi, rice etc. great value, especially as it's in the Rocks.

I first stumbled on this place about 5 years ago and introduced many friends to it. They all loved it - cheap as chips, fresh, simple and hidden. In the past 2 visits things have deteriorated. Last visit was stringy sashimi that was barely chewable. We gave it another shot today. A shrunken menu, chewable but very thick slabs of... More

Came with 3 adults and 4 children and we ate outside. The restaurant is hidden but is really good value and we all loved the food including the children. We will be back!

I have been going to Nakashima for years. It's essentially a little marquee that straddles a tiny building interior on a little back street (pedestrianised and very quiet and historic) in The Rocks. I love it. There are 8 or so tables outside under the marquee and much the same inside. Japanese staff that often have minimal English and just... More

We have been to Nakashima many times over the years and always try to get there whenever in Sydney. Hadn't been for a few years but had lunch there recently - fantastic food. I had the chicken katsu bento for lunch; very filling and very, very tasty. The gyoza are also great. A must when in Sydney.

This small Japanese restaurant is in the middle of The Rocks in Sydney, up are small walkway. There is a variety of food at good prices, which can be hard to find in this area of Sydney. Food is standard fast food Japanese. Staff were excellent, helpful and friendly.

Stopped in for dinner to this small Japanese spot in the Rocks. Really good food, big portions and a family atmosphere. Would recommend a booking as it is very small.

We made a booking for 7pm and we arrived at 715pm. It was packed to the roof. So glad we reserved our table. By this time, sukiyaki was out of stock. We observed that 2 out of 3 tables had at least 1 sukiyaki. I was bummed as that's my favourite dish. We ordered other dishes and they didn't disappoint... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
