My girlfriends and I picked this restaurant because we wanted to dine in an "authentic Italian" restaurant. We were very pleased with our choice. The food was delicious and fresh. They have generous portions and had good food and drinks menu. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. Special mention to David, our waiter, who made our dinning experience a... More

This place is a must visit great food in a family type atmosphere- it's a who's who's of customers and many have their image on the wall - you go to the toilet and read all the old colourful stories. Food and wine is always excellent

An institution for years and located in the heart of the city, Machiavelli brings you great Italian cooking along with Italian hospitality. A tiled basement setting with a central display of hung cured meats and other delights. The mixed antipasto is a must. The service is slightly theatrical where they mix up steak tartare at the table as well as... More

If it's traditional Italian you want, like Nonna makes it. Get to Machiavelli in Clarence street. Check opening times though as they seem to be open more to cater for their corporate clientele. Very old school feel to it. You literally have a Nonna cooking some signature dishes for you in the middle of the restaurant and the anti pasti... More

Pros (1) Featured Interior - politician photo panels on the wall (2) Food Qualaity OK (3) Fresh Oyster - Good Cons (1) A bit noisy - although there were only a half of the tables were occupied, there was already too much noise. I left the restaurant, as soon as possible, due to the noise. (2) Interior - not fancy... More

Traditional, undeniable quality Italian eating. I've never gone and even disappointed. There's a massive vibe as you go down the stairs off Clarence Street to the restaurant. Not for the faint hearted you need to concentrate to be involved in an intimate conversation but that's not what I choose to eat here. Pasta is devine, the beef tartar is off... More

Last two trips here have been below par, especially when you consider the extortionate pricing. One of my group ordered a steak that was approx $50 and asked medium rare and it came out well done. They then cooked another piece for him and didn't rest it at all, so ended up with blood all over the plate. Place still... More

Had a lovely business lunch here, great cocktails, food was good and couldn't fault the staff, very courteous and discreet. Food didn't set the world on fire but enjoyed the afternoon immensely.

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
