The restaurant ambience has an industrial feel to it. It is communal tables style where you sit next to each other not across from each other. We had the fried chicken , the duck curry (which was dry and had no curry), stir fried vegetables and the caramelized pork. All were good, along with brown rice.

Great Thai food in the heart of Surry Hills. Parking is challenging here - however it's a short walk from central. Good range of dishes, including prices as well. Cocktails are a must! Recommend the egg net and spring roll. Will definitely return here for top class modern Thai.

Had to decline offer to sit on uncomfortable stool at nearby 1 hat restaurant and Longrain were kind enough to take us in without booking. Communal tables not what we are used to but we're fine, importantly noise level in the hipster door doof era were fine and we could easily have a chat. Service excellent and with a smile,... More

I don't do reviews - unless a place is really good or really bad. What the heck has happened to Longrain? Used to be a favourite of mine. Popped in for dinner today with after approx 5 years and was very disappointed and infuriated by the incompetent and uncaring service. This place is trading on past reputation - just learnt... More

I don't like writing negative reviews but I was really disappointed in the experience when we went. There is no atmosphere. On walking through the door you can turn right or left. No indication of where you should go so we opted to turn to the left. Only to be told we needed to go to the other side of... More

Have been wanting to try this Restaurant for many years after going to the Melbourne Longrain many times. Sydney could learn from Melbourne. Get the recipe of the bloody Longrain! Food and service was great but the restaurant lacked atmosphere for me. I will stick with Melbourne version.

I hadn't been to Longrain since I left Sydney in 2004, my husband and I were in Sydney for a few days on the way home from our honeymoon. We had a craving for some spicy fresh food, so decided to visit Longrain. The food was sensational. We shared the ocean trout tartare which was the best dish I had... More

This is Thai food like I have never before tasted. The combinations of flavours and textures are like fireworks in the mouth. I arrived tired from travel but the food was so delicious that it woke me up. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes interesting food and is visiting Sydney. There were several aspects that I... More

Excellent choice for groups. The service is good and the food was very tasty. Thai flavour but modernised. The beef green curry was delicious, the yellow curry was more like a yellow crossed with a jungle curry and quite hot. The red dry curry duck good and the silk tofu is mouth watering if you split it open and pour... More

Had a family birthday at longrain and the food as usual was fantastic. The standard never seems to change. Sydney is now not cheap to eat out in but this restaurant consistently gives good value considering the quality of their food This time the experience was let down by the waiter who was so lazy I wasn't sure he was... Description
Longrain Sydney is located at 85 Commonwealth St in Surry Hills.

Inspired by the communal eating philosophy of the Asian table, our menu is made up of dishes created for sharing. Longrain's menu has evolved from Martin Boetz's original Longrain vision, bringing South East Asian influences to carefully sourced ingredients with fresh, zingy flavours. His vibrant menu is carefully balanced with wines and cocktails chosen by restaurateur Sam Christie. Our long, shared tables encourage the spirit of eating together, so you can try each dish as part of a full tasting experience, just as it was intended (limited reservations available).

Book one of our individual tables for parties between 6 - 10 people; or Private Dining Room for 12-18 guests.
