I'd heard good things about the restaurant but unfortunately the food was below par. The majority of our dishes came out cold, including the duck. The dumplings were watery and not fresh. We left a lot of our food uneaten. For $120 for two people (no alcohol) it was an expensive lunch that was disappointing.

The prawn dumplings were great and very tasty but other meals ordered were ordinary and everything was very expensive. The staff all looked harassed and upset which doesn't make for a pleasant relaxed atmosphere.

I have been coming to the Golden Century for over 20 years and we have been loyal, despite the ever declining service and yes, even the quality of food was not quite up to scratch. However, after our experience on our most recent trip in early May I will not return. We were a group of 4 adults and 3... More

We were staying in Haymarket for business & decided to have dinner at Golden Century. The restaurant was very busy but we managed to eventually get a table. The food was extremely tasty & we absolutely loved the prawn omelette. We didn't order any seafood as it was pretty pricey. Service was good but not very friendly. We did dine... More

Went there last night for Mother's Day dinner. The staff were very unfriendly. Most of the staff were trainees so I am assuming they are having trouble keeping staff. Something is off re their militant approaches to service. It was almost comical. Not a good atmosphere particularly for the prices charged but the food was fine. I personally never write... More

I have been coming to this restaurant for a while since I was studying at university (about 25 years ago). It was a cheap and cheerful place back then but through its own success, it has become a high end, expensive restaurant to dine. The food is fresh and always well prepared, consistent and tasty but it comes at a... More

While admittedly, one shouldn't come to Golden Century for the ambiance or the service. BUT the food- among the best executed Chinese food I've ever had any where. Ate here in two consecutive days while visiting Sydney. We tried the black pepper beef, curry beef, scallop with xo sauce, kung pao shrimp, ma po tofu- all excellent. While chatting with... More

Went back here after reasonable experience a year ago (downstairs) and were directed upstairs. There, we were met by surly staff, all wearing secret service earpeaces! Service went down hill from there. Food was ordinary to say the least, atmosphere was tense. Looking around, it gave one the impression that underworld luminaries dine there. Why, I don't know. It was... More

Went there for fresh lobster cooked in shallot and ginger - perfect! Price was also perfect - $289 per kilo! It's definitely an over priced place but would go again for a very special occasion. If it's within your budget, go and enjoy it. Most other normal dishes are approximately $25 per dish. Comes with free fruit (3 slices of... More

I go there around once a year and had sworn after the last time I wouldn't go again. Yet here I found myself at the restaurant again. Flavours are underwhelming service lacks and all in all it's a pretty pathetic experience. Add to that that it's totally overpriced and I really hope I will not be back again.
