Disappointing. Restaurant very dated . Service was excellent and prompt although at times a little pushy . Entrees were nice . We ordered two mains. Lamb souvlaki was ok. Calamari was poor. Overcooked and greasy . Wouldn’t go back or recommend.

We just had a lovely dinner at this restaurant. Our waiter was lovely and payed extra attention to us, explained dietary details, brought extra spoons for things to share when only one ordered it, even when not asked; all with a smile and charm. We...have had a lot of Greek food all over Europe, this was pretty good. We had a very nice evening. Lovely staff, great food, good atmosphere. Thank you very muchMore
Everything we have heard about this restaurant is true. The food was spectacular, the atmosphere "old school" classic Greek and the service second to none.
Don’t miss the lamb or the yemista. So delicious. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff. I’ve been there several times. Still one of my favourite Greek restaurants in Australia, not only Sydney.
This was not just the worst Greek food we've ever eaten, it was the worst "food" (if you can even call it that) we've ever eaten full stop. The food smelled off when it arrived at the table. The salad was clearly out of a...bag and the sauce in the Mousaka looked like soup out of a can. The lamb souvlaki was more poached than grilled, as if it was grilled days ago and then reheated in the mirowave, and the chips that came with it were undercooked and soggy. The bread that came with the taramasalata was drenched in oil. To summarise, it was just inedible, we left our plates on the table nearly untouched and stormed out of the restaurant, we ended up feeling pretty disgusted for the rest of the night. A truly horrible experience!More
Our party of 8 had the BEST night here for my 60th birthday! It was a rainy Saturday night and the restaurant was delightfully welcoming downstairs off the street. The staff were so lovely and the excellent food just kept coming. We had a banquet...which was absolutely perfect. The wine prices are also reasonable which is an added bonus. I will be back and I will also be recommending to all my friends. Efcharisto poli!More
Short trip to Sydney so visited here based on reviews. Unfortunately we must have been in a different restaurant. Only four or five tables occupied yet service poor and ignored by staff. No atmosphere. Food ok, nothing special. For the lack of atmosphere, service and...quality of food considered it expensiveMore
Good for a casual friends-style or family-style meal of sharing good food. Served quickly and with a smile, the food is just fine - not spectacular - but just fine. We enjoyed the conversation with friends and the food and wine kept coming so we...were happy.More
Very good service and the food was excellent. Waiter was very helpful. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant
Well presented restaurant, the food was delightful, and service from new waitress excellent. Great atmosphere to match food served. Recommend.
In Sydney for a couple of days and was hanging out for some Greek food - wasn’t disappointed. The souvlaki was melt in your mouth and the papoutsakia spot on. Teamed with some pita and tzatziki, a couple of beers and a coffee and we...couldn’t have asked for anything better. And the staff are excellent - friendly and ready for a chat.More
A three of us from work wanted somewhere quiet for lunch. One suggested Diethenes. I had not been there for many years. The service was excellent and friendly. The foods, light, colourful and tasty. I’ll go again.
First came here nearly 50 years ago and regularly until about ten when I retired. The restaurant was on the slide then however it has deteriorated further. Looks and feels grotty, small meals, one came out cold in places. They don’t even provide the crusty...continental bread anymore only the pita bread. At least the beer was cold. Sadly won’t be returning or recommending.More
Most disappointed, food was sad . The chips were soggy ! .The person serving us was very nice and polite , and that why the 2 stars for him . The lamb was not definitely worth. No flavour.boiled and fried !! Nothing to write home about...! The owners seemed to be sitting eating their dinner next to us !! But asked us to tip the waiter !! Didn’t even ask how the food was !!More
We have been coming to Diethnes for over many years but tonight will be the last time. The service from our waitress was good but the food was pretty awful. It was very tired, very average and I would expect better from the local bowling...club. Every meal had the same red sauce: lamb shanks, moussaka, zucchini - all tasted the same. It is such a shame, I feel like they just don't care, it used to be so good.More
