This place was recommended to us by a friend, and we were not disappointed. We ordered their classic ricotta hotcakes, eggs on sourdough and the kale, eggs and sourdough breakfast. That, along with two flat whites was $73 - so warning, this place is not for those who are budget conscious. It's a lively atmosphere, with some smaller tables and... More

Visiting Sydney for the first time, everyone said that brunch at Bills was a must, and they were right! Delicious, fresh food from a lovely menu. Pleasant staff and a super cool interior made this one of our favourite places. Just sad we only made it the once!

Got recommended this place by a local friend. Lovely food and coffee but the service was some of the worst I've had. Surly waitress, at least 15 minutes for coffees to arrive and then getting anyone's attention for ordering was a real imposition on the staff. Place wasn't that busy either. Fix the service and this place is a must... More

We have visited Bills at Darlinghurst many times over many years for breakfast. It is consistently excellent food, particularly their hot cakes (pancakes). Coffee here is also good. On our most recent visit we felt that service standards had declined & we had to catch the waiters attention for any service even though it was not particularly busy. Meals are... More

Funny how a small part of the experience can ruin the whole thing. Had a nice breakfast there, on a nice sunny day, on my own, it between appointments. The food was exactly as expected, (how exciting can avocado on toast be?) and the coffee was good too. I have been to this place many times, and always tipped. This... More

We were looking forward to this place having read great reviews and hearing about the ricotta pancakes. Delicious. It's a nice looking diner. It's a little awkward being seated with strangers, but you get used to it. I had the scrambled eggs with a side of guacamole (very small amount) and sourdough toast, and husband had the ricotta pancakes, which... More

Happened to walk past here when I last visited Sydney. Seem to recall I last visited about 20 years ago!! Certainly a lot quieter than then which is probably a good thing. Staff were really friendly and efficient but not overbearing . Breakfasts around us looked like the old favourites. Hot cakes, fritters etc. However being in the industry I... More

We only go here occasionally as it is out of our normal patch, but we are never disappointed. The corn fritters are great, a very big serve though. Tried the pav and it was terrific, topped with rhubarb and pistachios. Good pot of tea, not the squibby little Asian iron pots that look great but won't stretch to a second... More

Bills was recommended to us by some colleagues when we were visiting Sydney recently. We went there for a relaxed breakfast and despite the long wait, it was worth it! They served the best pancakes (hot cakes) I've ever had! The fresh healthy drink choices were great, scrambled eggs, fruits with yogurt and the coffee were all amazing. I would've... More

Great decor with all of their breakfast desserts on show. Delish coffee, creamy and hot. Big brek was unique and flavoursome. Cumin on tomatoes and miso on mushrooms. Crispy bacon. Good choice. Scrambled eggs are folded to perfection. Light and fluffy. Avocados very fresh- delivery came as we were waiting. Friendly staff, light filled room. A great choice. Easy to... More

Description
Bills Darlinghurst, this is where it all began, in 1992. The miniscule kitchen and tiny dining room in one of Darlo's old backstreet pub buildings, serving just a blackboard-menu breakfast and lunch, set the tone for bills still does today. Local by-laws allowed only a few seats - hence the now much-copied communal table where everyone eats together, reading the newspaper or striking up a conversation with the person enjoying scrambled eggs next to them. Today, it's still a simple Sydney corner cafe, serving a menu of bills classics.

Neighbourhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
