Best Vietnamese in Our Nation’s Capital

As COVID restrictions ease, make sure you get to Pho Phu Quoc! A local Northside favourite in Canberra’s unofficial Chinatown adjacent to the Dickson Shops, Pho Phu Quoc is humming. Their flavours are authentic south Vietnamese, and as their name suggests their pho is their signature dish. However the menu is extensive and there’s sure to be something you’ll enjoy. Personal faves are the crispy skinned chicken (either with rice, or noodle soup), their own odd but compelling take on Singapore noodles, and of course the beef & beef ball pho. The black sticky rice dessert is delicious. Service is fast and efficient, and the two Aunties run the place like clockwork - they have cheery smiles and a “Hello Darling!” for locals and blow-ins alike. With such great food and low prices, it really suits family gatherings, kids, and treating visitors. They do takeaway too, with generous portions.

Busy with great food

We (fortunately) booked a table for dinner, as this restaurant is obviously very popular with locals and visitors. Even with social distancing, there were lots of people, and our table had cool water provided as soon as we sat down. The menu had an excellent and varied selection, with "hot" dishes identified clearly. Our order was filled quickly and was most enjoyable. We will certainly return to this restaurant in the future.

Authentic Pho - Fantastic Customer Service, great atmosphere

This restaurant serves consistently high quality meals particularly the Pho which tastes the same as Authentic Vietnamese Pho you would eat in Vietnam (Have been there several times so know the flavor well). The staff are always courteous and polite. The food comes out very quickly. Perfect for dates, family and business. The place is usually busy (testament to the quality of the food and experience) so usually the atmosphere is quite warm and inviting. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

The worst customer service ever

I had the worst experience ever in a restaurant, I got a wrong plate, and the very rude owner instead of apologising, she started to teach me how to be clear while ordering (in a very bad way) although I am sure of what I have ordered. She doesn’t know how to treat her customers. I will not go again and don’t recommend anyone to go.

Delicious and authentic Vietnamese cuisine

The food here is so delicious! Most importantly it is authentic Vietnamese, and doesn’t compromise on taste to reach more western taste buds. Reminds me of Cabramatta and Bankstown Viet food. My wife from vn also gives it the nod of approval! Definitely visit again when visiting Canberra. This is an institution.

Even better with corona

I recently went here for a meal with a friend. I was very pleased at how they've handled the corona restrictions with hand sanitiser at the door, tables much more spaced out, registration at the table, and disinfection wiping of tables and menu cards as patrons left. The food was as good as ever. And the service .... OMG the service! ... we ordered and then 5 minutes later came out the food. I think their business model is now much more efficient then pre corona in that they've now got to get the patrons in and out as quickly as possible to make the same money as before. Nonetheless I didn't feel rushed or pushed out after our meal. Well done!

Great food and atmosphere

It was quite busy when we visited but the staff were on top of it. The bustle adds to the atmosphere of a genuine Vietnamese restaurant. The food is flavoursome and good and if you want more spiciness, as we did, a dish of fresh (and Hot) chilli is no problem. They are also licenced if you don't want to BYO.

Great family owned restaurant

Great food. They are allergy aware. For us there was a slight mishap as new waitstaff . Sue the owner is fantastic and came to apologise multiple times and check on my son who had a moderate allergic reaction . From our conversation I know she takes food allergy very seriously and even for gluten free and vegan diet, she assures me she uses different cooking utensils.

Very good Vietnamese food

I’ve had take-away and eaten here before but not regularly. I live Southside. However, I’ve been consistently pleased at how good this place is. Tonight we had the stuffed chicken wings and rice paper rolls. All very good. I particularly liked the ice coffee, which reminds me of Vietnam. The pho broth was nice and tasty, with goid cinnamon flavour. I have not found a better Vietnamese place in Canberra.

Fast Service and Delicious food

The food was delicious and arrived to our table in just a couple minutes after we ordered. We came as a family of four and together devoured three dishes and an entree. The food was very filling but amazingly delicious. Would love to come here again!

Great seafood, average service

A very crowded BYO restaurant on the weekend, just shows that it is popular and has good food We had the rice paper rolls, a prawn dish, and the pepper fish. Te prawns and fish were excellent. Service was average; and parking is available nearby.

Tasty Vietnamese dinner

Dined for dinner with friends. We shared the thai fish cakes, meat curry puffs & meat spring rolls for entree. We had curry chicken, pepper fish, pork stir fry & beef stir fry with rice & roti due mains. All the food was tasty & we all enjoyed our dinner.

Good Vietnamese food

Large busy restaurant serving good Vietnamese food. Enjoyed lunch and dinner here. Share several dishes. Satay chicken sticks (grilled/barbequed skewers might be nicer than fried), sizzling garlic prawns, tofu with vegetables, sizzling beef, house specialties were all good. Definitely recommend.

Great food - always. Great quality and portion size. Great service too. And I just have to commend the way the management/staff have handled the pandemic restrictions. They have followed the rules to the letter.....such a safe environment.
