Well, we thought it was a great eatery, right on the waterfront. Very popular with locals and those in the know. A Gentleman greets you with a clipboard and you go on a wait list which moves quickly. Mouth watering food is presented to appreciative guests by efficient service staff. Good Value, Very tasty and much appreciated. Thank You

If you book a table they do not tell you it is in another building behind. The setting not nearly as good, especially if your table allocated is inside. 2 poached eggs $12 then add on for anything additional ie $5 for ago. Was just ok but disappointed.

Wonderful place for a healthy meal

We enjoyed a healthy breakfast of poached eggs, grain sourdough , smoked salmon etc and freshly squeezed juices. The atmosphere, staff, food, service and prices were all fantastic. I enjoyed sitting at the end of a big chunky wooden bench and I felt relaxed and at home. What a great way to spend time on a beautiful autumn day. The cafe and toilets are accessible for those with mobility issues.

Don't recommend the salad!

I just bought a take away salad from Local Press. Gave me 7 small cos lettuce leaves and a few measly snowpeas, beans and bits of artichoke for $17.50. $1.50 more than the advertised price on the menu online. Lettuce was not properly washed so salad was grittty and sandy to eat. Flavour was uneven and I had to chop the ingredients myself again when I got home to ensure all components were distributed evenly. DO NOT BUY A SALAD FROM HERE. Huge waste of money.

Return visit and not dissapointed

We visited the Local Press cafe after a two year break and whilst the menu has changed the service and outstanding food has not. This is a must do, it's not cheap but excellent value. Yet again I can say i will be back, and now my daughter is based in Canberra for the next few years it wont be so long between visits.

One rude and inconsiderate staff member can ruin the experience

Usually my go to cafe delivered a terrible experience today. My food had been forgotten so when I asked the girl to check she cut me off with ‘wait over there it will be brought out when it’s ready’ She did not check and only discovered my burnt food when she opened the toaster for the next order whos recipient ended up taking his sandwich untoasted I realise it’s hard to find decent staff but it’s not worth employing people who posses no manners or consideration for others. I write this only to make the owner aware.

Great pancakes on the foreshore

Dropped in for brekkie on a Saturday morning and managed to get a table outside, which was fortunate as the place was buzzing. Good coffee. Pancakes were assessed as “awesome” by the junior diner. They certainly looked good with a delicious banana mousse and rich syrup to top them off. Salmon and scrambled eggs were tasty with what looked like large capers to add a nice balance of flavours. Recommended.

Hard with kids

I really loved local press when I was there a couple of years ago but this was my first visit for lunch and as a family. No kids menu, no menu changes accommodated and no high chair offered. My salad was really lack-lustre which surprised me because I’d always had lovely food there before. Husband enjoyed his pasta. Toddler was happy enough with eggs .. but the bill was a bit of a nasty shock to us. We must have picked expensive drinks and the avo on the side added a lot of cost to our attempt to create a child’s meal. Waitress was nice and the view is lovely but I think we might enjoy it from the pub next time.

A very good breakfast

We were staying overnight in Canberra and found this nice cafe and sat outside to enjoy the view across the lake. Of 4 or 5 restaurants that were open, this one was almost full and the others still largely empty. We took that as a good sign and stopped for breakfast - glad we did. The eggs and bacon was cooked perfectly and even the toast was great. Good coffee and good service, I couldn't fault this place at all.

Don’t go here…

What has happened to this place?? This was easily one of the worst meals I’ve ever had and we had the pleasure of waiting almost an hour for it. Toast was cold and wet, mushrooms were overcooked yet also cold, the $7 side of tomato with caramelised olives was just a raw, quartered tomato sitting on top of some tapenade. Just a warning for anyone with allergies the kitchen doesn’t seem to know what dairy free means. We won’t be back.

Great food, obnoxious staff

I’ve been here on many other occasions. This past weekend, we had several rude waiters/waitresses, then spent ages waiting for our drinks, and finally the bill. Thankfully the food was great to compensate for this poor experience

Great Sunday breakfast

Everything was extremely well done at this cafe. Lovely menu choices, plenty of staff on duty, meals and drinks arrived in a timely manner and were well presented and very enjoyable. Great setting on the foreshore, has a nice buzz.

Great wholesome vegan food

I can't believe I haven't written a review yet as I visit almost daily. It's an awesome whole foods cafe and they make a special effort to provide high quality vegan lunches daily. The real chai tea is my regular treat to self! The staff are wonderful. Always friendly and ready to help. I can't recommend it highly enough 👍😁

What a fabulous breakfast

Dropped in for an early Saturday breakfast and we weren’t disappointed. A small wait for a table was well organised and the service was speedy. The quick service is a bright side to the current pandemic and fully appreciate the need both from a business and personal level. We will definitely return. Oh the meal was great too.

Unbelievably rude

Open letter to the young lady who met us as we arrived on Sunday around 2pm: Your first words when greeting a potential customer are along the lines of "Hello, can I help you" or "hello, are you looking for a table" NOT "you have to leave, get out"! If we have to leave, I assume it was because of the COVID-19 limits, then you should have explained that, not just chucked us out! How dare you, you jumped up little missy. I don't know who you are, you rude, arrogant person but you have just lost yourself several customers. I hope your manager is happy with you. I know I am not!
