One of the best meals we had on tour. The meats were right off the spit, the Greek salad delicious and plentiful, the feta, tsatziki and pita fresh and tasty, the fried potatoes perfect and better yet, it was all you could eat. We definitely...enjoyed this local eatery with its outdoor vine covered tables overlooking the valley below with its vineyards and olive groves. If in the area you should stop, you'll enjoy it as much as we did.More

We stopped for lunch today. TripAdvisor says it’s closed on Saturday at 12 noon but it’s open. Wonderful Saganaki cheese starter with Greek Salad and two large portions of fries - we didn’t realise the grilled chicken and lamb came with fries! Free, fresh bread....Owner doesn’t really speak English so you are given a printed sheet and tick what you want. We also had two bottles of sparking water. The lamb was absolutely wonderful. The chicken was freshly cooked and the chips were superb. The salad was fresh and I’ve never had such crisp but succulent cucumber. Perhaps the best meal we have had in Crete this visit. It’s about 25 minutes into the countryside from Heraklion Airport but I’d say it’s well worth the drive. The scenery around here is lovely. I think there had been a funeral as there was a large table with people dressed in black and I noticed they ordered lamb from the roasting spit by the Kilo. I watched the wonder cut up and weigh onto big plates a lamb that had been cooked on the spit roast and thought that’s a really nice way to have a meal where you reach in and pick your bit if eating with family. The place is right on the roadside but hardly any cars go past. I have to also mention the freebies given after the meal. All free - a bottle of Raki, bottle of limoncello, bottle of liquor, two coconut cakes, a couple of blancmange/sago pudding with roast nuts, a load of (tasty) melon and some sweet preserved peels, fruits and cherries. These were free of charge and were delicious. The portions here are huge. The cutlery and plates are clean. The owner is attentive and the service fantastic. I would absolutely and without hesitation recommend this place to eat. You need a car to get here but have a drive around the area. It’s full of wooded and green areas that you probably won’t see on the coast. Love it, Love it, Love it. Real Crete! ❤️More

Absolute recommended price and quality ratio are very good. Waiters are very friendly, the owner and his son are obliging and attentive. Had dinner several times with 10 people and nothing but praise from our side. authentic greek food, highly recommended.

This tavern is still somewhat of a secret tip among tourists. It lies just at the entrance of Krousonas and is mostly frequented by locals who welcome you with Cretan countryside hospitality. The mountains scenery is beautiful. The food is great no matter what you...order. You'll have to come on Sunday for freshly grilled "Arni" though. The staff is super friendly but doesn't speak English though, however with some hand waving, pointing, and pantomiming you usually get what you wanted. Perfect place to rest on your way to or from the mountains of Krousonas. The newly built road with its dozens of turns leading up to the tavern also makes this the favorite destination of many bikers.More
