A note from The Swan by the Beach, Westgate on Sea
All reviews liver crab potatoes steak fish and chips sunday carvery nice pub lovely carvery delicious food christmas day saturday night lovely staff friendly welcome quick drink my mum a great evening lovely view
The first review I wrote wasn't amazing and we were asked to give this place another go, so we did twice.the first time we waited 1 hour 20 mins for drinks and the food was average. Last night myself and my family went for a...meal as my father passed away yesterday. The food took again over an hour to come out and when it did the baguettes were awful. No one did a check back on our table so after our meals I said tothe server that we were not happy with the food. He simply walked away 😡😡 totally unimpressed and will not be eating here again.More
Five of us had a meal. Waitresses very pleasant. At end of meal two of us decided to have a liqueur. When we got the bill we were gobsmacked.
The Swan has definitely lost customers. We felt totally 'ripped-off', bearing in mind there was no...drinks menu for a liqueur, so we just ordered a Calypso Coffee and an Irish Coffee. When the bill arrived the drinks were broken diwnnjnti THREE item single shot = £3.25, Coffee = £2.95, cream = £1.50. = £7.70. I defy anyone not to think that's extortionate. We expected them to probably be £5, but almost £8???
We're in a local pub/restaurant not in a London location. Total ripoff.More
Chips were the disappointing frozen type says it all for a restaurant really ,
had tge fish and chips was expecting better to be honest lasagna was as you would expect as a ready meal not made on the day
Lovely couple of drinks with my bro the other night sitting at the bar. Superb ordering system without having to que at the bar..... very friendly, happy staff. Such an improvement on the old decor.....a lovely place for locals and visitors alike. Thank you.
This is such a nice pub, very friendly staff who even remembered us after lockdown! Food can be hit or miss in all honesty but you are always made to feel welcome and like a valued customer.
Fabulous place to take kids to eat too....The new outside area is also really nice.More
On a long weekend break with the family staying at local caravan park and was need of food that was either deep fat fried or microwaved. Hence we reserved a table at the Swan. Was pleasantly surprised with its Anglo meets Thai menu.. The food...was great and the service was excellent. We were looked after by Chloe and Anna, who did a superb job. We had the kids with us and we’re made to feel welcome as a family.More
Arrived about 5 pm on Thursday 12 August tired and thirsty. No notice so went in the first door we saw and were told very abruptly that there was a private function so asked to leave. Later noted that the other door had a sign..."Staff Only" so....... Wanted food inside but thought to settle for drinks. Sat down but the relatively new waitress did not know the difference between cider and beer on her iPad and indeed had no idea what was available, So we left still tired and thirsty, what a disappointment.More

I am sorry that you were disappointed with your visit.
Unfortunately, I have to take issue with your review for a number of reasons:

We visited with some long standing friends who live in Epple Bay and had booked for lunch.
It was a busy Saturday lunch time and we arrive a bit early and a wedding party too, but no issue we were seated straight away.
The food...was very good and enjoyed by all, however what makes a good customer experience, a great one is the people and must mention 2 great ambassadors for The Swan, Daisy who from the moment we walked in was friendly, helpful and engaging, then there was Callum who was very similar too and equally engaging. It could be great training or just their natural enthusiasm and without sounding patronising a refreshing indictment of what young people can positively add to a business.
We would not hesitate to visit again when next down to visit our friends.More
