We visited The Anvil for an evening meal with friends on 21st October First impressions of the menu were that it was quite plain food, but the Barnsley Chop and Salmon steak were really excellent, and the vegetables were cooked to perfection and very tastey. The staff, including the owner were helpful and attentive to just the right level. We... More
It's a beautiful old building with real fires. The locals and the bar staff made us feel very welcome as visitors. We had fun on the pool table. I was disappointed they weren't serving food due to the landlady's holiday. The toilets were very clean. Would like to go back and sample the food.
Visited on a Friday evening. We had telephoned ahead and been told only a limited menu was available. The pub was very quiet, no music on but staff were very friendly. The food was very very basic, burgers, chips, curry or chicken dippers! But we had been warned. Nice village pub, I just hope it can survive in today's market... More
We have tried loads of pubs for Sunday lunch with the mother in law with mixed results but the food here was great. I haven't been in this pub for almost forty years and it still retains the country village pub feel. All the food is home cooked and the portion size is good, a lot of this type of... More
We met up with family from Leeds for my father in laws 80th birthday and had the pleasure to eat at the Anvil Arms. There were 22 of us and all had Sunday dinner followed by puddings. The food was delicious and plenty of choices for everybody. Shiela and her staff couldn't have been more helpful they even had a... More

We booked the Anvil for lunch following a family funeral and for only 75p more than a cardboard finger buffet at the local crematorium we had a wonderful carvery buffet and sweets and cheeseboard for up to 40 people. The landlady went out of her way to make this a special celebration for a lost loved one. This place is... More

Nice pub with indoor and outdoor space as well as nice duck pond opposite also with seating if you want to walk over with a pint. We had Sunday lunch and the food was good hearty food with... More
