My wife and l visited this restaurant via a Groupon voucher. The location is indeed lovely, nicely converted old coaching house. On arrival we were greeted by a very pleasant, friendly young waitress, l told her we had a voucher for a two course meal, she explained it would have to be mains and a dessert as the chef doing... It was my turn to organise our monthly lunch club venue and having had great meals here with my husband I decided on the dark horse. There were so many unsatisfactory issues the meal was a complete disaster. I felt very awkward with it being my choice. The table wasn't ready although having been booked for weeks. We were not... Knowing this restaurant had a fantastic past I was pleased to take the opportunity to visit. It's literally on our doorstep so driving into the beautiful grounds I was more than excited. A fantastic restaurant, in beautiful settings, minutes from your door, what more could you ask for? We parked easily and we're greeted by birdsong, hare and rabbits frolicking... More

We visited at lunchtime. The weather had turned very cold but there was no heating on at all so ended up eating in our coats. Although we had to wait a long time for the food we assumed this was because it was being freshly cooked, however the chips and the pie were very overcooked. I don't normally leave any... More

Our first visit to the Dark Horse and we're very impressed, it was right in the middle of an estate, next door to a nursing home (the old Hall) and surrounded by self catering cottages. The Place was amazing, the Bar used to be the stables and the restaurant used to house the carriages. All the original features have been... More

What a shame! Beautiful country secluded setting, lovely building but AWFUL terrible food! We each had three courses and all three were disappointing. Tasteless and bland! Could have been wonderful but sadly the chef needs intense training. Can not recommend.

Saw a picture on Facebook of the new improved afternoon tea, which looked very delicious but below is a picture of what we received.I must say comparing my picture to their picture how very disappointed we were. When you picked up the cheese sandwich, there was more cheese left on my plate than in the sandwich. The salmon sandwhiches were... More
