We visited Mandoon Estate in the Swan Valley on a Wednesday afternoon during school holidays and it was packed. The cellar door and brewery were really busy but the fine dining ”Wild Swan” restaurant was half full. We didn’t have a reservation but the Maitre D’ was very accommodating and gave us a choice of tables right away.
While I am not sure if there are any vegan options on the menu at the casual dining restaurant in the brewery section, The Wild Swan fine dining restaurant is very accommodating towards vegans.
Although there were no actual vegan options on the menu, there were one vegetarian entree and a main dish and plenty of side dishes. We didn’t order entree but went straight to the main course and also chose a couple of side dishes.
I asked the waiter if the vegetarian dish could be made vegan (without the goat’s cheese) and he said it could. The waiter was really helpful and also explained what else on the menu could be made vegan.
When they brought my meal out, they had replaced the goat’s cheese with whipped almond which was a nice touch as many restaurants nowadays have a take it or leave it attitude. And it was delicious….
I ordered the ”baby capsicum, raisen, verjuice, fregola” and a side of the beetroots, walnut, maple and orange. There was plenty there and my husband ordered a non-vegan dish. we both loved the food.
The waiter was on the ball! Complimentary bread was brought out with olive oil instead of butter. It was really fresh and warm like it had just been baked.
All of the food was well displayed and very fresh and full of flavour.
I really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service here so will definitely be back again soon. I can recommend eating out at the wild swan restaurant if you are looking for somewhere special for lunch in the swan valley. The Wild Swan restaurant is great if you want that special fine dining experience close to Perth. They also offer a degustation style menu where you can sample many different dishes although I’m unsure if they would be able to accommodate for vegans as it is a set menu.
Mandoon Estate usually has something going on at the weekends, I’ve been there a couple of times where there have been live bands. they also have an informal area where you can pack a picnic, buy a bottle of their wine and enjoy it on the lawn area. There is also an outdoor bar area, a play area for the kids, an art gallery and a pizzeria.

Came for a quick lunch without a booking at the Homestead Brewery and only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table so very happy they could accomodate us so quickly. Husband was looking forward to the burger and he was not disappointed. I had the seared salmon with peas and was very impressed, fish was beautifully cooked and peas were wonderfully fresh and crisp. As always the Mandoon Rosè was a great match with the fish. Such an iconic Australian venue, absolutely love it here, never had a bad meal or service and it caters for every type of diner. We are yet to dine at the Wild Swan but hope to soon.

We decided to stay at The Colony, Mandoon as part of the WA government staycation promotion. We upgraded to a 'Superior' room as we were there for two nights. The upstairs room consisted of an outdoor balcony with a lovely view onto the Swan river, large comfortable bed and ensuite. All very clean and well presented. We had robes and slippers which is part of the upgrade. The accommodation is situated amongst the grape vines which was really nice. Parking was right outside the door.
Room service was fast and good, pizza was excellent and only a couple of dollars more than at the brewery
One thing I really appreciated was that the wines in the mini bar were exactly the same as at the cellar door, such a nice change to the normal exorbitant charges.
We enjoyed breakfast on both days at the brewery restaurant, servings were flavoursome and generous and the serving staff very helpful and cheerful.
Can certainly recommend the cellar tasting, there is a charge but that is negated if you buy wine.
Being in the heart of the Swan Valley it is really easy to get out and about to the local attractions.

The trip was with Captain Cook Cruises . We had a wine tasting session with a selection of cheeses on the boat travelling up to the Mandoon Winery. Lunch was provided at the winery but the wine tasting here was an optional extra, which we chose not to do. The estate was quite picturesque and, as it was a public holiday on the day we went, crowded. The food was adequate but nothing exceptional. On the way back on the boat there was more wine tasting and one of the crew entertained us with her singing (which was excellent).

Chorizo Pizza had barely any Chorizo on it (two pieces had none, most was 3 pieces on a slice). Margarita pizza had 4 basil leaves and no other herbs. Booked by phone so did not know until entry that there was a 1.5 hour limit, but service was not good enough to justify time limit (took 30 minutes to take order). Happy though to bring me a beer then give me 10 minutes to drink it. On payment wait staff was rude in face of complaints, to the point it is pathetic you charge so much. Completely unprofessional, never coming back.

Went to The Lawn over two consecutive weekends recently with family. The Sunday afternoon was bustling and very busy and enjoyable, drinks were icy cold and pizzas were delicious but the following Saturday afternoon was a different story. Very disappointed with the pizzas on this visit. Paid $26 for a BBQ pulled pork pizza and literally got a base covered in a sauce, several pieces of dried pork, some fresh sliced chilli and 4 basil leaves. That was it!! Also the buzzer we were given did not work and when given back to staff I explained it did not go off, suggest check the battery only for her to put it back on the pile for the next unfortunate soul. Big money for less than acceptable pizza. Hope you lift your game for our next visit.

We had dinner last night at Wildswan, view tick, service tick, wine tick, gin sour yum, food which should have been the highlight for me a major let down.
Ordered the marron bland, the lamb inedible due to the amount of grizzly bits, zucchini chips and mash on point as they should be for $11 a pop. When one sees lamb shoulder on a menu for $38 one would expect it to be tender cut with a fork tender, my knife barely cut it. My friend also ordered and said same but was too polite to say anything. I politely pointed out the issue and they would have seen by the amount of food that went back uneaten, they offered my dessert on the house which was a lively gesture, however, that wasnt much better, cherries lovely cake dry as all. I'm sorry if i sound like nothing pleases me, far from the truth I will say the bread and butter was amazing. If the food is good I will also post a great review sadly in this instance below average and I certainly would not recommend the lamb.

Paid $800 for the Ultimate Experience package for our 20th wedding anniversary - estate tour, wine tasting, 6 course degustation at Wild Swan, overnight accommodation, breakfast at the Homestead Brewery. Turned out to be anything but the “ultimate” experience. The degustation courses at Wild Swan were extremely rich, starting with lamb tartare which looked like a raw lamb patty and tasted like minced meat. The morning after consisted of stomach cramps and severe diarrhoea which lasted more than 24 hours and required time off work. Mandoon offered a $44 refund for our cancelled breakfast and a promise to look after us the next time we dine at Wild Swan - needless to say there won’t be a next time but great to know we are valued customers.

Hi miccy72, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I can only re-iterate what was discussed over the phone with you several times. It seems that you are providing a 1 star review because you believe you contracted food poisoning from our restaurant. As we discussed, both of you had the 6 course degustation, along with 25 other diners that night, and many more on our a la carte menu. Only 1 of you showed symptoms later that evening. No other guests have contacted us with any complaints.
It is extremely unlikely that your degustation was the cause of any illness - especially since you both ate exactly the same food!
There is always a "red flag" when someone complains like this, and repeatedly asks for compensation. May I also add that Lamb Tartare is exactly that - raw minced meat.
Putting all of that aside - we never want our guests to leave unhappy, and we did promise to look after you on your return. Clearly you are unsatisfied that you could not walk away with a financial settlement. Perhaps next time, you should both claim to have had food poisoning - it may carry more weight!

Went for brunch on a cooler summers day, there is some shade.
The food was good and a good selection of local beers and ciders. There is a low key area with benches and plenty of room for children to play on the playground or open grass areas.
The main eating area is great with good service and quiet a wide variety of dishes.
Well worth a visit.

This is a review of Mandoon Estate in totality rather than any specific part of the estate. I've given separate reviews of Wild Swan (5 stars - restaurant) and The Colony (5 stars - accommodation).
Mandoon Estate has a number of components. There are two restaurants - Wild Swan is fine dining while Homestead Brewery is casual and better for families and cheaper eats. It also serves breakfast. Inside and outside tables available.
There's also a cellar door and associated gift shop. The wine isn't the cheapest but I can highly recommend their vintage bubbles, sav blanc and cab sav. We bought some of each and drank Mandoon wine with our evening meal in Wild Swan.
There's a lawn area called The Llawn which is used for picnics, music etc.. We were there on a rainy day so not a lot of activity although there were kids in the enclosed play area. It's all nicely done.
There's also a gallery although it was closed when we visited on a Friday. Not sure of the hours.
Then there's a reception area for larger functions (e.g. weddings). Yes, they've put a lot of money into the place.
Finally there's modern accommodation a couple of hundred metres away. Very clean and a nice spot to stay after wine tasting and a large dinner.
All of this backs onto the Swan River and it is possible to arrive by boat because of this. It's a great location with some lovely old trees.
Staff in all the venues we visited were welcoming and very helpful. The South African (?) guy who deals with the wine tasting was very good.
Recommended.

My partner booked the Homestead Brewery at Mandoon for a Birthday celebration but the food standard was anything but great.
The entrees of Burrata Heirloom Tomatoes and olives were ok but the
Wagyu Rump Steaks were very much poor quality beef, the accompaniment of Broccolini had way too much garlic and although advertised as New Potatoes they certainly were nothing like what they should have been.
The Affogato’s were the highlight of the meal.
For the prices they charge this should have been so much better and very disappointing for a Birthday celebration.
Staff were attentive at first but then very absent towards the end of the meal so I had to approach to place an order for dessert.

I wanted to love this place but few things left us wanting:
Pub at rear closed at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon
Service in Homestead was very slow and restaurant not that busy, although staff were friendly
Starter olives were hard and almost bitter, steak not cooked the way my hubby requested (to be fair they did offer a new one) but when it returned no new cutlery.
My hubby dropped a fork in front of the wait staff and no offer of a replacement one.
The outdoor verandah badly needs some fans to move the air (night was very humid) and left me sticking to my plastic chair.
Too much competition in the area for us to return here anytime soon.
Needs attention to detail for many factors, a real shame.

In the past my wife and I and our friends have had great events and dinners at Mandoon. However the events of yesterday need to be addressed. We arrived as a part of a prepaid wine tour, where we had pre ordered our meals. The meals were put out on the table before we arrived and none knew where their meal was, we had to move the meals around until we all had what we had ordered, the staff showed no interest in helping us. Two meals were not served until most had already finished their meal. Most admitted that whilst their meal was not hot enough they were happy. Some however were not, the lady opposite me had a pizza swimming in oil so much that she had to eat it with a knife and fork, the lady next to her had to have her meal replaced as hers was Stine cold. Many meals were left unfinished. I had ordered a burger that whilst not really hot was tolerable. However when I got half way through it was clear that the centre was cold and uncooked, it was red and bleeding. Whilst I think this is ok in a steak or even a burger for that matter, it should be as a result of being cooked that way, not uncooked as a result of cold or frozen meat. I very politely pointed this out and was offered another, but was not willing to wait so was happy with chips, also cold. The manager, a guy with a French accent was fine at first, then had a really pathetic and childish reaction, defending the meal, saying he had stuck his finger in it and it was warm. So essentially and publicly calling me out as a lier. So I never asked for anything, never complained and never wanted a refund, why would I lie? Furthermore, when you are given feedback and seeing the poor service already, you should really have just took it on the chin, apologised and moved on, I WANTED NOTHING FROM YOU. Childish tantrum ensued, I just kept asking him to stop and move away, felt really threatened as he was now standing over me and shouting. The tour operator had to move in to calm the guy down, and took a photo of the bloody burger as evidence. Great restraunt other than that!

I have been here multiple times but normally for lunch and late evenings for their wines and beers.
On this occasion we went first thing in the morning and enjoyed a lovely breakfast. They had a fair offering on the menu and as much as the buttermilk pancakes were enticing I settled for the big breakfast. A great choice with a healthy serving provided. The restaurant opens at 7:30am.
No wines or beers to be sampled on this occasion but coffee with brekkie did the trick.
