It’s a very nice venue and the service was good. But the food was disappointing. As an example, the scallop entree was two scallops with a creamy topping. At more than $10 a scallop we expected a taste sensation but it was bland. For mains we had steaks (about $50-$80) and pork belly ($40). The pork was ok but could have been served with a vegetable and crackle to make it more appealing. The steaks were 5/10, the accompanying potato tasteless so we ordered side dishes. Desserts were stingy - I’ve never seen an apple crumble served in a butter dish. Wines again were average but expensive. Hundreds of dollars later we left annoyed. Happy to pay for a special experience but this wasn’t.

We booked for lunch today to try the menu before deciding to have my birthday lunch for a party of 10 at the end of April. Wise decision! The ambience & the service was good to start. The scallops were really delicious. We ordered medium-rare steak & marron. Steak was served rare and no sear marks, marron could have been cooked seconds longer. Crumble dessert was nice. Service was good to this point but afterwards staff spent most of their time setting up for a wedding which didn't add to the ambience of our lunch. We ordered a cheese plate but after waiting 20-30 minutes, cancelled our order & left. We think the meal was not worth the price, and we decided we wouldn't be returning for a long time nor book for the upcoming birthday lunch.

Went there on the weekend for lunch and it was one of our worst lunch we had in a long time. We paid top dollar for the meat and it was so tough and over cooked that we couldn't eat it and left the whole meat.they still charged us for the meat and took 1 large and 1 x small beer of the bill but it would have been nice to remove the steak at 60 $ instead. We def won't go back or recommend to our friends.

My wife celebrated her Birthday on a Sunday, with live music, great food, wine and beer. About 25 guests attended, and everyone really enjoyed the beautiful day at this beautiful estate.
The day could have been perfect, if it wasn't for a ridiculous policy the restaurant has, that made them lose 3 stars in this review: to charge "cakeage", a $3,50 fee for each one from the party attending. According to the guy who charged me $87.50 for all 25 guests, this is because the restaurant serves deserts, and "we brought our own desert". What?? So a Birthday cake is a way we have to fool the restaurant into bringing our own desert and not consuming from the restaurant?? What about the 25 guests we brought, who all consumed wine, food and beer (my wife and I alone spent almost $200)? So next time we celebrate a Birthday there (although there won't be another) should I be asking each one to buy a desert from the restaurant, so we can all sing happy Birthday?
A "cakeage fee" would perhaps have been acceptable (although not advisable to avoid bad reviews) if we had used anything from the restaurant, but WE BROUGHT EVERYTHING: disposable plates, forks and napkins. Even the knife to cut the cake we brought our own, and we cleaned it all after too. To make matters worse, my wife had sent an email to the restaurant one week before advising that she wanted to celebrate her Birthday there and asking if she could bring a cake, and the Restaurant & Events Manager Belinda replied just confirming that she would reserve a table for us, but not informing anything about a "cakeage" fee. We were only informed on the day, and after we had started serving people!
I understand that the restaurant has their rules, but before go applying rules strictly, they should consider that, thanks to my wife's Birthday, they had 25 extra guests all consuming their food and drinks (on a day in which there would be only one table outside if it wasn't for us) and we didn't use anything from the restaurant to serve the cake. Is $87.50 worth a bad review? The message you are sending is, do not celebrate your Birthday at our place, or we will charge you!

The venue is beautiful. The service was mediocre and the food was delivered in drabs, the very expensive steak was returned as it was not medium rare. Come on people, we took guests out and were left feeling embarrassed and underwhelmed.
My recommendation is to not spend your money here unless you dont mind being disappointed

After BOOKING a table , with many tables empty we were asked to wait, hmm, our table was never occupied .
We placed our orders, after 1 hour we asked if the meals were on the way, yes, half an hour later we asked again, poor form.
Once the meals arrived we were extremely Disappointed to say the least, the portions we very small compared to other tables next to us who just happen to have the same choices, obviously you should not questions at this establishment, otherwise you will be treated extremely poorly, will never come back here AGAIN.

Noticed another reviewer complaining about the size of the scallop serves and I would agree although each of the two were tasty .
i wanted to order the crab but it was not available. So I will have the shoal cape sirloin thinking it would be less fatty than the Wagyu.
The shoal cape sirloin shares the problem of the scallops but in addition it was not 300g, (probably half that) not value for money ( $55) or a good steak ( see picture of the remaining fat content.) Amazingly the very thin steak was rare as ordered. ( I can’t cook steaks that thin rare.)
I emailed the restaurant to share my concerns in the hope this would be acknowledged as a one off failure but received no response.
For the rest of the meal:
The berry and apple crumble though small was very nice.
My partner had rump also thin and badly butchered with gristle still in the serving. She also had the scallops and made the same comment.
Wines are above average in quality. Service was very attentive and pleasant.
Menu is really a bit confused and lacking cohesion.
Overall food not nearly good enough for the price.

Six of us had lunch at Riverbank and ordered entrees to share and all ordered mains. One of the entrees "Ciabatta, smoked butter, confit garlic" came with 4 thin slices of just crusty oval bread and being six of us we asked and offered to pay for 2 extra slices of bread, well they were very nasty with us and said we would have to order a complete whole entree dish to get 2 extra slices of bread.
Well, there are at least six people and all their friends that will not be going there again. Wouldn't you think 2 slices of bread would be a small price to pay for repeat customers and word of mouth?

As a visitors from Adelaide, our expectations of visiting the Swan Valley at a winery with a beautiful aspect were quite high. However on arrival, and politely asking for a wine tasting (at a cellar door) we were bluntly advised by the female bartender that the winery is too busy on Sundays for tastings..but maybe we could do a couple. She gave a sigh at each pouring and we were made to feel we were asking far too much! (At a cellar door!). After eating lunch, we attempted another tasting and was completely and totally ignored. The same bartender made herself look way too busy. The word disappointing is the best way to describe our experience. If it wasn't for our amazing waitress, it would have been the worst winery we went to. The steaks were full of fat also and not worth the exorbitant price they charged

Very disappointing food. You would think for $60 the steak would be lovely (not much else for mains)! Two of us had the steak with gratin. Steak was not nice, very sinewy and not nice at all. When we told waitress, nothing was said. Told person on the till when leaving (yes we were charged $120 for two steaks that were terrible) that we did not enjoy meal and he said, oh, no one told me. No one really cared. We did not feel we had value for money, ordered apple crumble and it was very small and tasteless. Will not return.

We were dissapointed with our experiance at Riverbank estate.
The setting is beautiful, perched on a hill with a view out over the vines. The staff were really friendly.
Unfortunatly, within 20min of being seated, the staff started setting up a wedding venue around our table, it was not relaxed with people moving tables and rushing about all around us. We felt were were right in the middle and could wait to leave. It totally ruined our dining experience.
The scallop entre was delicious, and beetroot salad beautfully presented.
My husband ordered the ribeye med-rare for $58 and it was not seasoned at all. The meat was tough and chewy, even the steak knife struggled to get through the meat. Not worth the price.
We were keen for dessert, so asked to move out of the 'wedding zone'. The staff were really good, and apologised for the oversight with a couple if free desert wines.
We shared a tiramasu for dessert.. it was more of a dry cheesecake. It needed the dessert wine to wash it done.
Overall a very dissapointing experience, and would not return. It was not the tasty, relaxing anniversary lunch we expected.

We made a booking made several weeks ago for a very special occasion. The table we were placed at was front and centre in the restaurant. Having arrived for our 12.30pm booking, the restaurant was empty with only one other table being seated. After the initial seating, we were not given an introduction by any waitstaff, nor offered drinks or even water for the table! After being seated for over half an hour, we had to ask for water and for someone to take our drinks order. We were very rudely told that our assigned wait staff were looking after another table and was too busy to take our order. The head waiter finally came over and decided to take our drinks order herself. Despite this it was another 15 minutes before any drinks arrived at our table, however, we still had to get up and get our own water from the bar. We were given no other service after this without us asking for it. It took the waitstaff over an hour to take our food order despite asking several times. It was then another hour before our food arrived at the table by which time we had been in the restaurant for 2 hours. Despite the lack of service and being told staff to too busy to serve us, at several times during the afternoon there were between 5 and 6 staff behind the bar, very inefficient! After having made a complaint, we were told that the floor manager would come and speak to us, however, he never did. There was no acknowledgement of the terrible service we had received and absolutely no attempt to rectify the situation.
Our compliments to the chef as the food, when it did finally arrive, was amazing and was the saving grace of the day. It is just a shame that the experience was let down by the poor service of the front of house staff.

Our birthday party had a lot of issues… some being guests having to wait ages for water and wine to be brought, despite asking several times… and to have unoccupied table settings removed (before even starting). We specifically asked that entrée be served after the speeches - but you guessed it… this completely interrupted the main birthday speech! Seemed more concerned about a wedding than us. The account was also inaccurate and incomplete.

Pre-dinner drinks ordered: bubbles were flat and a wrong beer was brought to the table. Not a great start! We ordered some bread rolls and oil for starters with garlic confit and some black salt ... this cost us $40 for 10 average bread rolls!!
A few of us ordered Gnocchi and others had the Pork Belly. The Gnocchi was served very ordinary in a bowl with the porcini mushroom sauce - no greens with it, just very plain, taste was ok, nothing spectacular. The Pork belly was presented nicely on the plate. I think they enjoyed it but didn't say it was fantastic.
We had to ask the waiter for some further drinks.
We also had to request that our empty plates be taken away after about 15 minutes!!
A couple of us had dessert which for $14 were tiny and the tiramasu was very lacking in taste.
It is quite a nice setting overlooking the vines but overall not impressed with the food, and particularly being served flat bubbles!! There are lots of good places around and we certainly won't be going back here! Very disappointing when you spend a reasonable amount of money and the overall value is poor!
