We had unassuming but excellent red and white house wines from the Douro (handy half bottles available). The farinheira and morcela (unfortunately so often corrupted nowadays!) are authentic and a must for those looking for traditional food (also available as a starter). The roasted cabrito yesterday was very tasty indeed (one does need to have the necessary hand skills of... More

Stopped in for dinner. First time we've seen Cabrito on the menu since we've been in Portugal. Since we love baby goat, we all ordered it -- some just grilled and some with the Port sauce (they have it both ways). It was very disappointing. All we got was back bones and rib bones. Very little meat. Lots of fat.... More

Riding back home we stop in Guarda, right in the middle of our journey. Luckily Belo Horizonte was still open and we enjoyed a great meal that had great homemade taste. I even had a Vitelo Estufada that tasted just like the one my grandma made. Definitely a great place to stop...

This place is in the restaurant street of Guarda old town (with a lot of - touristic - alternatives nearby) and has nice food on a bit upper level stanards. In a country like Portugal where tipping according final bill is unknown and not exepcted by waiters there is absolutely no reason for having prices like 10,98€ on menu (not... More

Small but very friendly and quite cozy restaurant. It has two dining rooms, one quite small but very, very, comfortable. Service is very good and creates a pleasant atmosphere. The menu presents a wide variety of wonderful Portuguese dishes, from cod fish to the different meats and sausages one can find in the region. The food is very good indeed:... More

I know Portuguese food, I grew up with Caldo Verde, Luiguica and chouriço. This was an experience that justifies any stop in Guarda. Guarda is small town in Beira Alta. It is quite off the beaten track, this restaurant makes it a worthwhile stop all by itself. We had Cabrito and the Salsicha Freid, we could not be more pleased.... More

Just another typical Portuguese restaurant. Normal food, old staff and ambience. Prices are low. We ordered "Cabrito", not the best one.

Saw this recommended in the Rough Guide to Portugal, an out of date copy in fact 10 years old. So when we saw it still existed thought we should try it. Well worth while! Loved the cloth covered tables, disliked the TV and refrigerator in the restaurant which we felt lowered the tone! Food was good, I had the local... More
