Lovely local, new chef produces really good pub food and reasonable prices. Nice log fire and quiet ambience on a Tuesday evening.

Went here for the first time with my family and I will be going here again. It has that traditional village pub feel inside. Out side there is a garden where in the summer time you could eat outside while the kids run free. The food was lovely. From your everyday bangers and mash to a Sunday roast. Good sized... More
The King Charles recently changed hands and as worried as we were to lose our amazing landlords, we were pleased to have the pub open again... The new landlords are lovely! The food is excellent (I had a delicious pheasant pie the other day and I'm currently tucking in to a really tasty potato and garlic soup) and all the... More
Come on people, help save the pub. It will only stay if we use it. Just had a really nice pheasant and onion pie which was filled to the brim with a puff pastry top. Yum. Veggie pizza looked good as well. Second visit in a week for food and excellent both times. You'll miss it if it goes.
This has just been taken on by new landlords & we had a short visit with the family in the early evening to celebrate. There was a lovely large bonfire outside to enjoy & free sparklers for kids. They had just finished food service when we arrived but the kind landlady still brought us out 2 puddings she had left... More
So pleased with the Charlie being open again and the new menu. Had the chicken tagliatelle carbonara very tasty. My husband had the CUMBERLAND Sausages and he loved it too. Great friendly welcoming pub with attentive staff.
Visited here with family for lunch. Was unsure what to expect as had booked it quickly when looking for a dog friendly Pub/restaurant halfwayish between Oxford & Bournemouth. We were even more unsure when we turned up in car park as the location & general appearance doesn't give the best "kerb side" impression. However, on entering very, very friendly staff... More
We moved in to the area recently and have used this pub for meals on several occasions. Always very acceptable food at good prices. The pub dog Barney welcomes everyone, especially those who will give him a small offering from their plate! The pub has welcomed other dogs too. Now for the bad news! It's shut!! We heard yesterday that... More
The people at this pub are really missing a trick in terms of their target audience. The pub is surrounded by estate and families with children and the area is crying out for a family friendly cheap and plentiful 2 for a tenner, beer and a burger sort of pub. It would make a killing with the outdoor areas and... More
Am writing this sitting at a table at the King Charles--my second breakfast-time visit. The King Charles isn't a boutique destination; it has no fancy decor and isn't an architectural wonder. It's a big, old-fashioned English pub that does wonderful full-English breakfasts. The staff are friendly, my waitress this morning is pretty and helpful. The WiFi is free and works... More
