This is a delightful place to stay. The staff are kind, the food is delicious and much of it home made (bread, cheese etc) and home grown. Blazing woodburner in our room. Simple but personal and welcoming. Far nicer place to stay than some other places which are on the face of it more up market.

We arrived at the hotel late in the evening, but the hospitality they provided exceeded our expectations. All the rooms were equipped with a good heating system and well-maintained despite being one of the oldest hotels. As Bumthang is a very cold place, heating the water for the shower takes a little bit longer, but the bathroom was quite neat and clean.

The Swiss Guesthouse was founded by the Swiss owner as the first hotel in Jakar (Bumthang) back in the ‘60. Nowadays his daughter runs the hotel, overlooking the Jakar Valley and Dzong. The location has a nice garden with picknic tables. The restaurant is excellent and the staff is very kind, helpful and is doing everything to make you happy. The rooms are completely made of wood and they all have a wood heater (next to the electricity one). We stayed three nights as a basis to explore the interesting environment. Very much recommendable!

from a hotel room point of view I would rate ours only a three. the newer addition is definitely better (opt to stay there). The heater did not warm up the bathroom which was extremely cold although we left the door open. Very little space to put anything - in the bath and/or room. No closed. Few hooks and the heater is much too close to the nightstand and beds. Our mattress was too hard and uncomfortable, however, the views, good food selections, service, etc. do rate it a four).

This places comes highly recommended even for meals. Secret is all the ingredients are locally grown especially cheese comes from their own farm. Food is yum and adheres to European standards. Be mindful of time take in food preparations as everything is cooked fresh.

This was our second trip to Bumthang and our second stay at the Swiss Guesthouse. The rural setting is quiet and peaceful. We ate onsite and enjoyed a wonderful variety of food served by extremely amiable staff. The rooms are clean and comfortable with wood stoves for heat. Would return a third time if we were to return to the area.

Beautiful hotel in beautiful Bhumthang. Getting here can be quite difficult without your own transport. But the location is great and the air is so clean. The rooms are set like wooden chalets and neat and clean. We opted to get our meals outside. The family who run the property stay on site and there and two friendly dogs. Would definitely go back and spend few more days.

We stayed as a part of 10 strong group from 20th to 24th march16 .The very entry will please you a large compound dotted on the right hand uuper reaches by pine trees, the roads and foot paths are lined by flowering Peachtree s and cherry trees.just in front of the new annex is a large Apple orchard. The rooms are wooden floored with fireplace s,well fitted clean bathrooms and super clean bed linens. And staffs are just fabulous - chef was great so good continental and Bhutanese food ,the girls Lily,Sonam and I forgot some other names were just very cordial.one of us got I'll and the help we got from the management and staffs are unforgettable. The owners family members specially our hostess was everywhere looking after the well being of every boarder. Overall a great experience and definitely a place that can be recommended. only drawback may be the cost of food for Indian travellers though food s were all home made and of extremely good quality.

It was low season and this is a nice sized hotel but for some reason we were given a room next to the ONLY other guest here. This was strange. The wifi is terrible in the rooms, at lest in the room we were given at the far periphery of the hotel next to the other family there. The rooms are sparse but fine. The staff was lovely and the food was good.

For Swiss people this is like coming home!
Great accommodation in wooden block houses with wood stove in the room.
All the food you are longing for after months of traveling as Fresh baked bread, Swiss fondue etc.
Fritz Maurer, the owner, has quite a history as being the first foreigner able to travel to Bhutan invited by the king. His own cheese dairy and beer brewery (Panda beer) and the real Swiss cows make the place even more special.
A visit here is a "must" for all Bhutan travelers.

First real hotel in bumthang, which is a remote semi rural village. Fairly basic but comfortable. What makes it is the owner and his family who run the place with care and pride. It's an experience worth booking in for. Must try beer, honey and cheese pioneered by them in Bhutan and still made by the family.
