Many thanks to the staff at the Red Lion. We'd been disappointed somewhere else which had changed their opening hours and I'd heard good things about this place. They fit us in for a meal with 4 adults and 2 under 10s at 5pm on a Saturday evening. The menu is extensive and interesting and the children's menu was just... More

Was delighted that my friends chose to bring me here -- they indicated that the food was good and that they were allowed to bring their dogs to the bar area. The signage outside says it was established in 1746 so I am assuming it was a real Red Lion hostel dating back to the 18th century. The interior is... More

A post work favourite in winter months with the cosy fire and good mix of bar food or sit down meal.

Hi, we visited the Red Lion on Saturday 18/02/17 on route to the local church for pre-wedding dutch courage. About 20 minutes before we were due to leave my nephew arrived back from the toilet with the button for his flock coat in his hand. The pub couldn't have been more helpful and Nelly (kitchen staff) produced us a needle... More

7 of us for a midweek dinner. Table not set for us on arrival, despite being pre-booked and had not been used prior to our arrival. We sat at the far end of the restaurant and were the only table occupied at that end, it was cold and despite promises they would turn the heating up nothing happened. Very slow... More

Myself and a friend selected The Red Lion because it is known for quality food and is a relaxing and comfortable place to eat. As we had a very quiet baby with us we chose to eat in the bar area. We ordered our food and drinks at the bar. A group of children who were sitting right at the... More

We drove to the Red Lion Digswell hill and was welcomed with a smile. The service staff took us to our table straight away and serviced us with a drink and menus. The meal once ordered and brought to us was excellent. We celebrated the life of our 20 year old cat that had died that day.

The staff have lost interest in this place, not surprising as Mitchell's and Butler have let it go to ruin unlike the Wicked Lady in Wheathampstead which they have just completely refurbished. My advice vote with your feet and go there

Ideally situated if you want to go for a walk in the woods. Lovely decor. Me and my friend at the set menu £14.95 for three courses. Excellent value. Food was delicious. I loved the breaded Brie followed by beer battered cod sandwich. Delicious! Pudding a bit of a let down/ cookies and ice cream. I thought the cookie would... More
