Ate here during our week stay in Braithwaite. Staff were welcoming, polite and always attentive. Pub did smaller portions which is a fantastic idea. We were concerned how much smaller they would be but were pleasantly surprised to find them the same, probably a bit...More

I had the pork belly which was lovely. Good portions. I think the plates make it look small in photos. My wife's pie was one of those which is a pie crust on top of a bowl type affairs that I don't care for but...More

Another Night in a typical pub of the area. Food was poor, dry and generally sadly presented. Again No Cloths on the table which I find it too primitive as a standard, Also basically un Healthy for hygiene standard.More

Hiya, cananyone please expand on the Dog issue/food? We're motorhoming nearby just before Easter and we're looking at walking the mile or so to this Pub with our Border Collie. Tonight (Friday 28th March 2015) we've eaten in Keswick at a Dog friendly Pub (early evening). There were three Dogs in the establishment, all well behaved and very unintrusive. To be fair, the affection between our Border Collie and a young Labrador had complete strangers talking to one another in seconds thus creating a lovely friendly atmosphere. No Dogs were sniffing directly at anybody's meals but obviously, like humans they like the smell of food What's the policy at The Farmers Arms? I appreciate not everyone is a Dog lover but they offer no hygienic risk by simply sitting in a Pub breathing in and out and maybe raising their head when a new fresh food smell is served up. It's common knowledge that humans have the capacity to carry and indeed pass on a far greater amount of germs or infections than Dogs/animals. We can catch nits off humans but not fleas off Dogs for example. If a Dog was sniffing directly up to diners plates then that's a different story but the owner is surely at fault. Or is it the fact that a Dog is simply in the Pub when food is being served? I've caught more germs off perspiring, unwashed walkers who take off their walking boots and stink the place out.
