I was a guest at the Garden Cafe for 1 month. Tsering went above and beyond even prior to my arrival. I know this is a restaurant review but I didn’t see many other comments regarding the Garden Cafe as a really good destination and...home base while in Bir. Rooms are reasonably priced and clean.
From breakfast to late evening the dining area is a relaxing place to meet fellow travelers. The casual style seems to encourage conversation and I enjoyed making new friends from all over the world. Many places you want to eat / go but here you are inclined to hang out get to know people.
The food of course - I found it to be consistently very good and I ate quite a few meals here. There were a few people that were very specific about their meals and the kitchen always accommodated them cheerfully. Eggs cooked just so etc. When I asked for the Garlic pasta dish to have added veggies they found plenty to please me. For breakfast the basics were always good and came out to the kitchen freshly prepared = eggs , pancakes, oatmeal (porridge) w/ fruit, yogurt, potatoes (French fried). I particularly liked the French Toast smothered w/ fruit
Lunch / Dinner. All the dishes looked good, everything is prepared fresh so yes, sometimes when the restaurant is full, it takes a while to get your meal. However the whole family is working hard and when it’s ready they are getting it out to your table. I personally think that’s fine and understandable. It’s restaurants where the staff is goofing off that I find offense. I particularly enjoyed the chicken pizza, Garlic pasta w/ veggies, and Chicken Wraps.
Tsering and the boys made really good Cafe lattes and smoothies. Ginger Honey Lemon tea was a good hot drink for relaxing.
Overall the family is very kind and thoughtful. You will find that if you need help sorting out anything in Bir they are happy to advise. locate the ATM’s, laundry, buses, POI, cabs, etc. note: regarding cabs, usually one is available right outside.
Tsering and her mom even made a special Chickpea traditional breakfast w/ bread for us one day. I say bread as I think it’s called Puri, 2 very thin halves airy in the middle. Made us feel like part of the family.More
