It all looks very exquisite at first. However, the taste is just not at the same level as the looks. The number of different tastes are overloaded. The service is relatively good, allthough for a restaurant of this style, their English could be better. Think about spending about 100 € per person for dinner (simplest menu and some wine). They... With lovely views across the Channel and top class service this is French Nouvelle Cuisine at its best. A whisper in one's ear tells you the make up of the dishes, which include some amuse-gueule extras. However I had been expecting to enjoy some great Normandy dishes so it was a bit of a shock to be presented with such... More

A high end restaurant within the Grand Hotel. Very expensive food. Dishes seem to be created with the intention of getting a Michelin star. The food is over-worked and complex, and the combinations are sometimes bizarre and unappetising. If you are trying to get a Michelin star, you must get things 100% right. This they failed to do, with food... More

This was an expensive stay, but was something we wanted to do. We arrived late at night, from the ferry, so didn't really experience the beautiful large terrace facing the sea. The stairs from reception are looking frayed. There is very little parking. Breakfast was very good. I don't think we will stay again, due to the cost.

Le Balbec in the Grand Hotel is great, but it will set you back a hefty sum (it was easily the most expensive restaurant we visited while in France). If you are willing to spend the money, you won't be disappointed.

The Grand Hotel sits at the very point of Cabourg's amphitheatre layout, so it and its restaurant are a big deal and in the proper season it must be very popular. Visiting off season meant that we had no problem to get a table, but otherwise it seemed everything else was the same. The dining room area is very ornate,... More

This restaurant, like the Grand Hotel in general, is a place of pilgrimage for all Proustians; it figures in several of his novels where Cabourg is renamed Balbec. The hotel, which was substantially remodeled, still preserves much of its fin-de-siècle atmosphere, and the dining room, although no longer so formal as once (Proust compared it to a fishbowl filled with... We spent a afternoon at the beach in Cabourg and had lunch at the grand hotel. The sand was silky smooth, the water was a little cold, but the sky was fantastic. We had gallettes Indienne, the view from the terrasse was beautiful and the waiters where very effective and polite.
