Mumtaz Mahal is a fine dining Indian restaurant that has been servings it’s guests for more than 35 years. We have a breathtaking view to offer while you dine with us indoors or on our terrace. We also offer a menu of typical Indian street food that is also growing in popularity as a tapas style of eating with a few alcoholic or non alcoholic beverages. You can find us in the middle of the city not far at all from the Royal Opera House of Muscat.

Like many other reviewers, we have to stay that the quality and flavour of the food is superb. I cannot fathom why anyone who likes Indian food would criticize this place. Most of the dishes we saw are classic staples (eg Chicken Tikka Masala, which we had and it was delicious). The Lemon Rice is a real winner and we got the recipe to try at home. I was a little taken aback to be asked my preferred chilli level because normally I would want the chef to decide this – eg a toned down vindaloo is not really a vindaloo IMHO. The only flaw is price – it is not cheap and it was our most expensive meal in Oman. Whilst it is really good, I do not think that the relatively standard range of dishes warrants the price. But if you crave a really good Indian meal, this is the place to go. Getting there requires a car or taxi.

Yes the location is special but we stayed at the Crown Plaza so our views were amaxing there.
Service slow and they werent even fully booked.
Food OK, portions are generous so be careful not to over order. Fot starters the onion and mint baijia were nice and not greasy.
The daals were tasty and nice hot naans.
I agree that you can now get amazing quality Indian food elsewhere in Oman wityout having to pay a premium price but i suppose Mumtaz Mahal is a nice reataurant to go too for a special occasion?

The food was delicious , the service was fast I really recommend this Indian restaurant for those love spicy food Nice staff and good service. Food was good and freshly prepared. . Tandori chicken was tasty though hotter in terms of spice than I am used too. I recommend trying this place especially if you like hot and spicy food.

Me and friends went for dinner on 11th Oct 2021 and ordered 3 main course (with same taste for 3 different menu items). Food quality was bad and with burnt rotis and food was expensive with very less portion. Will not visit again…. One person got sick the nest day. We paid 50 rials for a small portion of food… totally a bad experience

We visited this restaurant over the last 2 days & the staff were attentive & understanding of our Jain diet.
The waiters are all very knowledgeable about variety of diet choices including gluten free, vegan & Jain diets.

We really enjoyed the tandoori dishes and the dal tarka was delicious. Mixed grill and chicken tikka highly recommended. Amritsari fish bites were very poor though..they use a local soft fish which was totally inappropriate..mushy and horrid. Great position with nice view. Charming service.

High expectation but food quality is not so high
Tried Biryani Lamb but the laste was worst than a normal restaurant.
Butter chicken dish was good
Puri dhai was aweful and very similar to normal restaurants.
Mumtaz mahal is suppose to be better In not just venue but also the food quality.

Worst experience for Diwali Lunch with friends

Well I have been there during my wife birthday looking for change and the location is superior and located on top mountain.
However in term of food taste, presentation compare to price I will rate average.
I believe it's a tourist hub.

Pathetic experience.
Bad service, bad quantity of food. Main course was served while the rotis were in the kitchen. Then everyone waited for the roti to come so that we can start the dinner . I was extremely embarrassed in front of my guests. They are taking so much for the poor service and quantity. It has been such a bad experience for the first time in Muscat. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL.

Food was outstanding. We were served by Rana and the team who were excellent. And chef Rana (different guy) created a special chicken jalfrezi for us which was fantastic. He came out to check that everything was ok.
And the view is great too.

Have to say that I was not expecting to have one of the best Indian meals I can remember on a holiday in Muscat !
