Went for lunch last week to find that all the things that made it worth driving out of our way, and recommending to friends, had gone. None of the excellent Asian-themed dishes, no spicy nibbles, and no lunch-time deal or specials. Just a standard pub food menu - somewhat overpriced for lunchtime, and languid service. We will not be going... More

I am sorry that you did not like the new menu and I do remember you asking for the Asia salad. Our menu has recently changed, however the response we have had has been excellent. This is the first negative piece of feedback, however I am sorry you feel this way. Our menu changes around seasonal produce, demand and trends. Our... More

My husband took me here for my birthday dinner, the night before we went away on a trip. Nice staff, rustic yet cosy table, delicious food (the sharing steak was amazing) and the service was fine. A thoroughly lovely meal out

We visited the Merry Monk on a Friday night for a relaxing evening dinner. The food was lovely certainly no complaints, but it was all a bit rushed. On arriving we were taken straight to our table and from then on the whole evening seemed like a race. We hardly had time to swallow the complimentary bread before our starter... More

Chose to book to celebrate my Mum's 'significant' birthday here this evening. I've eaten at The Merry Monk before (although not for a good many months) and, having dined at another local esteemed pub restaurant only a few days ago, I had high expectations - these were surpassed! I enjoyed wonderfully succulent duck and, having eaten very little meat for... More

This place was recommended to us, so thought we'd give it a try. The pub itself was lovely, and the Staff were friendly, but unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. As I am a pescetarian. I ordered the scallop starter, which had a very strong pungent fishy smell (which was not very appetising), and it appeared to be undercooked.... More

We had booked online and highlighted that one of our party has a severe food allergy; when we arrived, to a great welcome, roaring log fire and quick service, the staff were fully aware and discussed how they might help. They went to considerable trouble to accommodate this and the service overall was impeccable. We all had great starters (lovely... More

Will be interesting to see what response the management give to this review. They seem to be an extremely defensive bunch but this is a totally honest review. Evening booking for five. Food first: Out of the five starters we ate two or three. The scallops were undercooked and I don't even know what they were prepared in (vinegar I... More

Having only had Sunday lunches at this venue previously we took some friends for a Birthday meal to The Merry Monk. We arrived for our meal a few minutes early, but were seated immediately. We were asked if we would like wine with our meal and given menus. I will say the restaurant was poorly lit, and I had to... More

Booked in for a Sunday Lunch at The Merry Monk. Succulent Medium Rare Roast beef, Yorkshire pud and veg, lovely! A pint of real ale (Broadside) and yummy sticky toffee pudding to finish. A good crew of young, attentive and smiley staff provide a lovely lunchtime. The draft from the window was a bit off-putting, but, apart from that weel... More

Great service once again from all at The Merry Monk. This time for a surprise birthday dinner. Beautiful food, fantastic choice of dishes and wonderful attention to detail to make the evening go smoothly - including having the champagne ready when the birthday girl arrived. A great table near to the bar and very attentive staff made sure that she... More

Description
Tucked away in the Cambridgeshire fens, The Merry Monk started life as three cottages in the 17th Century and from there became The Red Lion Public House until 1992 when it was renamed The Merry Monk. Roaring log fires for cosiness during the winter months and a garden rounding off a gorgeous country restaurant offer perfection for enjoyment throughout the year. Our focus at the Merry Monk is a casual and inviting atmosphere.
