nestling down a narrow foggy country lane, the Pig is different. Our welcome was odd as we weren't greeted - just - sort of stared at... (with a smile tho)... I asked the smiler if he worked here, which he admitted to and eventually showed...us to our table. It was the last night before closing due to staff problems (not my problem); So there was no hand pulled beer I could drink as they were unwilling to put on a new barrel. I had a lager which was horrid. We ordered nibbles/starters but were also made to order mains at the same time. (noticed other tables ordered their mains after the nibbles had been eaten). The (mainly pork belly) nibbles were amazing and quite filling, but half way through them our mains arrived - tomahawk steaks - also amazing and huge. The smiler tried to take our unfinished nibble/starters from us, but we bravely balanced all the meals and horrid drinks on our little table and ate as much as we could. The food was all pig - fabulous and filling - we pigged out as much as we could but the service we got was a bit different. We left a lot of the food - we needed a break between courses - more time - and the drinks went undrunk. A lot of money for a fast food experience.. not an enjoyable evening out. Shame. Do go (for the food) if they reopen, just make sure you don't order your mains at the same time as the starter/nibbles. And check to see what beer they have before going.More

A shame to read disappointing reviews below regarding staff - personally we had a brilliant experience. I've worked in hospitality and waiting before, so am very picky when it comes to service, but Pig on the Hill did not disappoint. Could only get a table...quite late in the evening, as the majority of Devon seems to be fully booked every night! We arrived and were shown to a nice table. Drinks and food followed in good time, both meals were exceptionally tasty - FAR superior any just old gastro pub food. But our evening was ultimately made by how lovely the waiting staff were (one tall gentleman in particular who was very amusing and took to the time to engage with us and ensure that we were happy customers - apologies I didn't get his name! An asset to your team and the reason I'm taking the time to write this review.) We dined on Wednesday, 15th September.More

We went on the last day of our holiday on Thursday and cannot say enough great things about this restaurant. The staff are so friendly and the food, OMG it's amazing. Some of us had the pork and it was huge, and they serve the...best chips you'll ever eat. One of us also had the bubble and squeak and I've not seem them enjoy a meal as much before. Very well priced, and just sad that it's so far away from where we live.More

We booked for Sunday lunch today and it was really amazing. We both went for the beef brisket (slow cooked in black treacle and ale) and it was divine. Served with: duck fat roasties, a fab Yorkshire pudding, green beans, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and...a sublime carrot (never raved about a carrot before). Gravy was superb. I ate so much I couldn't manage dessert (this never happens). Lovely, friendly young team served us and were great. It's super dog-friendly and has a great relaxed atmosphere. Our best roast out in years. Great VFM and well priced wine, too. Really enjoyed and recommend.More

We chose this Gastro pub based on other TripAdvisor reviews, and have to say the food was very good. I chose the beef cheek Bourguignon and my wife chose the Tomahawk pork steak, which were excellent. However, the service was very poor as none of...the tables around us including ours had any of the plates and cutlery removed after we had finished the starters and main course. When we spoke to a member of staff we were advised this was due to lack of staff. During our week in Devon there were a number of restaurants with limited staff and we were advised in advance that there may be delays. However, on at least four occasions the waiters came to our table with additional drinks orders and left with an empty tray! They could have quite easily have taken away the dirty dishes but they chose not to. Such a shame as the food was great.More

Booked in for 20:00, arrived a little early and informed that there were guests sat at the table allocated for us, not a problem as we were early and thought we would have a drink in the bar area. 13 minutes past 20:00 and had...to ask about our table. Having moved us to a different table the light above was flashing, kind of harx to see the reduced menu, not advertised on web site. Waitress moved us yet again to another part of the restaurant. Very disappointed as having visited this restaurant twice before and thoroughly enjoyed everything about the experience. William GradonMore

We stumbled across this pub on google maps of all places when talking about finding somewhere for Sunday dinner. We booked a table ahead of driving to Devon on Saturday, and on Sunday we ate at Pig on the Hill. The Sunday dinner was amazing,...couldn't fault it. Best one we've had out (and better than the one at home) in a long long time. My 8 year old said it was the best chicken they'd ever had. Other half had the pudding of the day, and after some depressing puds dragged from the fridge in the gastro-pubs closer to home, she was really impressed on how tasty the crumble was. We all (2 full adults and 3 young children jolly on ice cream) then enjoyed the small but ample play area before setting off for our next holiday adventure. On this trip to Devon we've found it really hard to locate places to eat. I think it's a mix of things being spread out in Devon, the tendency to pre-book post COVID, and Devon has remained stricter than some more northern areas on social distancing. Regardless, after our Sunday dinner we were keen to get back to pig on the hill, and made it back on the Friday before we left for home. This time we ate from their standard menu, and again the food was amazing. Can't fault it.More

With a view of the sea and children's play area, this eating place looked amazing and the menu was very tempting. However, trying to order from the takeaway was not very good. Our order was wrong as it came out as plated food even though...we were stood at the takeaway area but instead of giving a hot replacement, it looked like we were given the plated food knifed into a takeaway box and it was luke warm. It is not very cheap to eat there so we did expect better than what we got.More

We spent a week in Westward Ho! And had a meal here twice, What can I say except the food was fantastic! The 1st evening I had the Pork Tomahawk, and my husband went for the ploughman’s, and my son sausage and chips. On our...2nd evening we had some sharing dishes to start with them I had the cod curry, this was another fantastic meal and my husband wasn’t disappointed with the Cesar salad, They was plenty of chicken. Staff were very friendly and a lovely place with nice views, will be returning again in the near future.More
