We came outside the regular kitchen times by accident but we got delicious focaccia with tasty sides plus coffee. Cozy and quiet ambiente - it’s worth the way!

spectacular setting, near the eremo di colomini, a church partly carved in the rock, great views.the food is excellent, their speciality is (farmed) river trout and FOCACCE LEVE (a sort of bread/pancake/pita), but they have plenty more. Spring water is served in terracotta mugs. It...is a bit off the beaten track, and definitely worth the detour! RECOMMENDEDMore

Simple, clean accommodation with stunning views, great value and delicious food. Little to no English spoken and yet it didn’t matter one bit. Highly recommended!

The restaurant is hidden on a steep hillside above the town of Gallicano. It is possible to drive up to the restaurant but by far the best way to arrive is on foot following an ancient track. The restaurant forms part of an agriturismo with...accommodation and its own organic farm producing much of the produce served in the restaurant. There is a trout farm in the valley below, visible from the terraced approach to the restaurant, which provides the fresh trout for the signature dish of roasted trout with herbs. Another speciality which must be tasted is the antipasto of Focaccia Leve, (a type of flat bread) served with ham, lardo, smoked trout, cheese and pickled vegetables. There are vegetarian options (and Vegan by preorder). The food is excellent and service is friendly. Meals at the Eremo are not to be rushed and a leisurely lunch can last for two hours. The setting is spectacular and prices amazingly reasonable. The owners support village development in Rwanda.More

We stumbled across this little gem on our guest to find the monastery, thank god we did. Great views amazing trout, we had lunch here twice and it was well worth the slightly terrifying drive up. The monastery is also quite spectacular.

The Trattoria at the Eremita is a wonderful family run restaurant with a beautiful terrace. The food served is exceptional: much of it is organic and grown and prepared on the site. One of the specialities is fresh trout from the nearby trout farm. The...family (they are not staff!) are friendly and welcoming. I recommend the antipasto of "foccacia leve" served with cold meats, cheese and pickled vegetables (a vegetarian option is available) followed by roast trout with roast potatoes and vegetables. Dessert includes home made tarts, pannacotta and gelato with local fruit. There are trails through the chestnut forest and down to the river.More

We regularly dine in this restaurant, with an outside terrace overlooking the wooded area. Some time ago it was part of the monastery area - hence the name - but now it has moved 200m away. Tipical high quality Tuscan food, and relaxed but efficient...service.More

We had lunch here on Wed 27th September with two friends who have been several times before and recommended the restaurant. The drive up is a bit tricky as it is steep and curving. One parks at the Hermitage (Eremita) and then you walk up...the path to the restaurant. There are lovely views from the outdoor portion of the restaurant - there were not many people when we were there and the whole setting was very peaceful and tranquil. We all had the local trout with potatoes plus side orders of salad and roast vegetables - a delicious meal. A great positive also was that a jug of water was brought to the table together with bread - we did not have to buy bottled water as in so many other Italian restaurants. We also had the house white wine which was pleasant. Our friends spoke Italian, but the menu is in English and German also.More

Our stay here was planned as part of a self-guided walking tour but we really enjoyed staying here. Their antipasti was plentiful and comprised of food produced locally here. Both the dinner and breakfast we delicious and filling. The location near the hermitage is beautiful.

The place is absolutely stunning, Sara & family are the most friendly people on earth and the food will make you enjoy the stay even more. The place offers lovely rooms, well equipped and clean, the window view will make you breathless. The place itself...seems like middle of nowhere however it is not that far from Lukka or other smaller towns. The amount of air will nearly make you dizzy, morning breakfast outside will make the experience amazing with simple homemade bread, tarta, or cappuccino. The food quality is stunning although it is pure and simple, no fancy form or shape, but lots of substance and taste. Trout, Pasta, Tarts... just amazing. Must go, must try. One of the most charming places we have ever been to.More

The Trattoria dell'Eremita is our favourite lunch stop outside Barga. The food is simple but excellent and the location is spectacular. We usually walk either from Barga or from Gallicano, which builds up a good appetite! The antipasto of Foccaccia Leve is a tradition: crispy...flatbread with a great selection of meats and cheese plus some local smoked trout and marinated vegetables. For mains try the oven cooked trout in herbs with roast potato and vegetables. Torta del Eremo for dessert. The location is half way up the valley from Gallicano towards Fornolovasco and the Grotta del Vento, near to the Eremo di Calomini, a monastery built into a cliff face. The family who run the restaurant (and accommodation) are friendly and welcoming and are deeply committed to organic food (much produced on their own land) and sustainable development.More
